I started a thread here that I meant to put somewhere else, and I erased it. So what to discuss in the coffee lounge?
Have you seen any good movies lately?
Last movie I saw was "The Last Duel". Pretty good.
Anyone seen "Dune"? I see it's available for streaming and might rent it. It's up for an Academy Award for best picture.
On Becoming a Guinea Fowl is a movie set in Zambia about a funeral of a woman's Uncle and the family secrets that come out and are suppressed.
It's interesting that while it's a Christian tradition, there are cultural differences that are evident.
It's a really good movie for something different.

Tokyo Cowboy is a satisfying movie about a "salaryman" from Japan who goes to a ranch his company owns in order to make it more profitable. Along the way he discovers things about himself and his relationship to others and his longstanding girlfriend back in Japan.
Much of the Movie is in Japanese and it's set in beautiful Montana on a real ranch.

"Fountain of Youth" is a big budget AppleTV+ movie staring A-listers John Karsinski and Natalie Portman as brother and sister adventurers hunting for the fountain of youth. Protectors of the Fountain of the Youth, lead by popular Mexican actress Eiza González Reyna, for generations are out to stop them.
It has a dismal 36% on Rotten Tomatoes. I took it for what it was as an escapist movie that doesn't take a lot of thought. I enjoyed it. Lots of action.
The ending sets them up for another adventure, so not sure it will be a series. I guess it depends on how this one goes.
Black Bag is a spy thriller movie with an excellent cast and was very well written and directed.

I watched with interest the documentary Janis Ian: Breaking Silence because I'm a huge fan. I saw her live a couple of years ago on her final tour.
I've been a big fan of hers since her record "At Seventeen". Her album "Between the Lines" is one I listen to still today and is my favorite album of all time. I think her songwriting is brilliant and she's one of the best singer-song writers ever.
The documentary spans her incredible life and career, along with it's ups and downs.

She lives down there somewhere in the west coast of FL doesn't she? I think that big hurricane displaced her a year or two back. She was always one of my favorite singer songwriters. My spouse said that "At Seventeen" was one of the most influential songs of her young life. I heard that music quite a bit.

She lives in the Sarasota-Bradenton area just south of me that was hit by Hurricane Ian a couple of years back. Many people related to that song "At Seventeen", myself included. My best friend who was a year older was 17 and overweight and gay and it really touched him deeply. I just love her.
Just finished Season 1 of "Friends and Neighbors" Apple. There are only nine episodes but Apple was so confident in the show it was renewed for a Season 2 before season 1 aired. With good reason as it's a very good show and is currently sitting a #1 on their most watched list. The show has several characters, each of whom are going through something. It's very clever with some twists and turns along the way that are well done.
Recently finished the mini series of The Count of Monte Cristo, the English version starring Sam Claflin. It was an overall great story telling with great acting, especially by Sam Claflin. I very much enjoyed the route "Edmond Dantes" chose for vengeance. Sam very much looks like Henry Cavil in this and had often thought Henry was in this haha.

Universal Language is an oddball of a movie that's set in Canada but the language spoken in the movie is Farsi and otherwise seems to be set in Iran. I can't describe it well so I'll post a professional review. It garnered very good reviews from the critics. I liked it for being unique and it held my attention,
