Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:
1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?
2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?
3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.
Not much left to add. Says it all.
Yeah, but I work nights too. And days. And mids. I am a dreaded VARIABLE RN.And I don't think it's freakin fair, cuz I have been a nurse for 23 years. Just cuz I just started in ER last year, I should have whatever shift I want, you know, cuz I worked for 23 years already.
I'm gonna finish my bottle of Electric Reindeer rose today.
I'm gonna slit my wrist and come to your hospital, I wanna met you cuz you sound like a really nice broad. The girl in my picha is a really nice broad. It's Linda Blair. I kept her head on straight. From your picha you look small. I like small broads.
Very sorry, for the above post, Miss. But I haven't been feeling well lately ever since Skippy The Wonder Chicken died.
ooops! like an idiot watching (no looking for) a train wreck, i searched out the catheter thread (really?) and wandered over the the nclex forum (again) *sigh*.
i would like to point out, as has been done by many others, the aim of nursing school these past few years (at least when i was there, and presently, it seems) is to train student to pass the nclex. so it stands to reason that if you are unable (multiple times) to do the very thing for which nursing school has prepared you, this may be a bad sign. whoops. now i guess i'll be called mean, too.
ok, i do tend to by cynical and call it like i see it. but we encounter many scenarios as nurses where sugar coating things is actually detrimental to the situation at hand. now i will also say in my defense that i try to come up with solutions (how to improve things at work and ideas to help educate pts and such) and approach some people (pts, their loved ones etc) with kid gloves and explain things truthfully but tactfully and gently.
all right, if flames are to be thrown, i've got my protective armor on, so begin!

I had to google "Electric Reindeer." You don't keep up with arty-farty wine names when you drink vodka. Skol!
My dad's done rotating shifts as an ER doc for about 20 years. I definitely couldn't do that. So props. But my dad was giving me **** the other night because the docs are salaried, so have to stay over for possibly an hour or two per shift and the nurses are paid hourly. I finally had to drop the ol "Dad, you make more in one year that I'll see in five years even with my 'new grad, obligatory one to two hours of overtime per shift' pay."
/also, waiting for him to die
//not really
///his life insurance could pay off our mortgage 'tho...
That's probably the most demented, outrageous thing I have ever read. I like it!
probably a different catheter insertion thread, but part of a serious reply reads:"...
wanted me to see that not every woman is built the same and to think outside the "box" if i wasn't successful the first time."
or was that an intentional pun?
i remember that post. i thought the same thing and almost said something, but i didn't want anyone to think i had my mind in the gutter. (man, i wish i hadn't seen that justin timberlake episode on snl.)
well, seeing as how it was a 5 or 6 dollar bottle I've had since Xmas, I didn't want to waste the reindeer on guests or anything.
Not like that stinkin' bottle of Freja (drink local) sitting in my fridge.
Wodka is too much for me (I am a pansy).... I only drink that when I'm jobless and looking for catheter volunteers.

less likely to have flames thrown here, this far into this thread. now, if you were anywhere that's deemed 'student territory', well, you'd probably be crispy by now.
something to share with you all (hey everyone!!)....i have been pleasantly surprised to find pms coming in from both students and new grads telling me how much they have enjoyed my reality check posts. telling me that they don't want to say anything for fear of getting ripped up by the don't crush my dreams brigade, but that they totally agree. i wish they'd speak up, personally, but that's ok....they're happy i'm speaking for them.
on a side note: i'm starting to wonder if that new mystery beauty is a real person posting?? meaning, no one has come forward yet to claim the booby prize for the best joke post! i'm telling you, if you hadn't seen it, this was absolutely the caricature post: it had references to holding onto your dreams, keep on trying no matter what anyone tells you, i just know you can do it, you're going to be a great nurse, anyone telling you to give it up already doesn't remember what it was like to have to take that test, hang onto your faith and g'd will see you through (yes, it was there!), kaplan got me through and it can help you too, and on and on and on. i really did lol, as i was sure it was a joke. geez, if this person is for real, i am so looking forward to future posts

I missed your answer, as the sandbox was 'sanitized' recently. Some of my better stuff got deleted. Ah well. Guess pointing out how difficult it is to read through so many misspellings and such is considered 'personal attacks'.
Still don't know who the "beauty" is.....I swear, if that's a legitimate poster, it was a post I should have printed out and framed. It covered every aspect of every problem we've ever had with, well, anyone! Priceless, so I figured it HAD to be a joke. Lord, I hope so.....
