The Mockery of Nursing

Nurses Relations

Published

Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:

1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?

2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?

3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.

Not much left to add. Says it all.

You aren't a nurse yet and haven't walked a mile in my shoes so therefore you....know nothing about anything.

You aren't a nurse yet and haven't walked a mile in my shoes so therefore you....aren't capable of using proper English.

You aren't a nurse yet and haven't walked a mile in my shoes so therefore you....are jealous because you don't have an alphabet behind your name like I do. Sincerely Yours, Nurse RN, BSN, MSN, CPA, MBA, ABC's and 123's.

You aren't a nurse yet and haven't walked a mile in my shoes so therefore you...have no right to call people out on their painfully obvious rude behavior...what do ya know about people skills anyway??? You're NOT a nurse, remember??

You're under the age of 25....I'll bet you like showing off in front of the doc's in those tight scrubs, don't ya?

You're under the age of 25...I'll bet you're expecting a cookie for every good deed you do because EVERY person under the age of 25 was raised with the very same, exact standards and there are NO exceptions to this rule!

You're under the age of 25.....I'll bet you think that you're going to eventually take over my job, but what you don't know is that I plan on working till I'm 98 years old. What, you think a 98 year old nurse can't lift a 300lb. person out of bed?? Just you wait and see, little missy..just you wait and see!!

oooo I got one:

Why do you want to know how much the jobs pays? You shouldn't be a nurse for the money. You should work just because you love it...

Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but this thread is hilarious.

An LPN cannot work in Labor and Delivery or in ICU. Their education and scope make it so.

I know that there are areas that do utilize LPNs in ICU, but that is a short sided decision. I would never work with an LPN in ICU, who has a patient assignment, and have my own assignment to be responsible for.

Too much responsibilty and accountability for me and my license.

JMHO and my NY $0.02.

Lindarn, RN, BSN, CCRN

Somewhere in the PACNW

Sense of humour transfer STAT!!!

Oh, and my education and scope do permit me to work L&D and ICU.

And after all $0.02 won't buy a cup of coffee.

I'm a new nurse. Everyone hates me and I don't understand why. When people talk to me and try to correct me I just say "whatever" and walk away. This avoids confrontation, right? So why does the DON want to have a meeting with me now? She should be having a meeting with all those people who keep trying to talk to me....I'm perfect!

And...

I can't believe they expect me to learn from my subordinates! I am in charge here! Yes I know I only graduated 2 months ago and they have been working in the field for like a million years....but like I said, I AM IN CHARGE! ME, ME, ME, ME, ME! How dare anyone suggest that they are as smart as me! I know what the books say and I'm in charge!

Interesting enough, maybe these people are terribly sincere and wish to better themselves. Do not be so quick to judge, when you have faults as well. My mother was terribly dyslexic, and she got her baccalaureate in dental hygiene all while taking care of me as a single parent, and graduated at the top of her class! Now she is a great dental hygienist. She's part of my inspiration to graduate from college.

People who get DUIs made a mistake. Some learn from their mistake and change.

Some people are dumb, but that doesn't mean they can't get smarter.

So someone failed a lot. Righteous is the man or woman who falls 7 times and gets back up again.

It's not that we don't agree, but this not that post. Shooo!

Over the years, my fave topics for thread-starters?

~I have always wanted to be a nurse, but I really don't like vomit, or poop, or blood. Can someone tell me how to get out of dealing with all that in nursing school (since what I REALLY want is to be a CRNA and make tons of money without actually touching a patient)?

~ LPNs and RNs are both nurses, so why should I bother to go through the time and expense to be an RN, just because I want to work in L&D, or ICU, or maybe PACU and I already know the local hospitals don't hire anyone for these areas but RNs? Everyone I know has already explained it to me, but can you please explain it again?

~ My clinical instructor is SO mean. She's threatening to fail me just because I missed two important clinical days, couldn't calculate a drip rate to save my life (or my patient's) and says I'm dangerous in patient care. I'm sure she's just jealous of me.

~ I've failed out of college twice, with majors in Basketweaving and Advanced Hair Braiding...

OR....I've got 7 kids, no source of income, no support system, and my therapist is in love with me I'm sure...

OR....no one wants to hire me with my lousy job history (I don't ever actually KEEP them), so I need to try something new and maybe something fun....

Do you think I have what it takes to be a nurse?!?

What's going thru my mind when I read these posts:

1. My teachers/students/coworkers are jealous of me and trying to get me into trouble...uh, probably not. You're probably scaring the living buhjeezus out of them every time they work with you

2. Help me decide if I want to be a nurse. Nope. I'm not on the hook for a lifetime of your karma

3. You nurses aren't sweet caring pushovers who let me do whatever dangerous thing I want to the patients, so you all eat your young. Actually not, I find you give me gas.

4. My nurse was mean to me in the hospital after I threw my tray at her, slapped her, and reported her to the BON because she wouldn't let me smoke crack in my room just because I'm wearing oxygen. Fine, next time, we'll load you up on a 100% non-rebreather, and let you light up. We need a new wing on the hospital, but let me get the patients with some sense outta the way

5. You're so mean/cruel/uncaring, I'd never want you to be my nurse. And I wouldn't want you as a patient, either.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVEEEE IT!!!! I could have written this myself. My turn.

-Nowadays they just give anyone a nursing license. Back in my day, we had to walk 20 feet in the snow, test in a room with 300 other people, take a 2 day hand written exam, and had to wait 6 weeks for results. No nurses take an exam, get 75 questions and they are a nurse!

-I'm a C nursing student, will I make a good nurse? Only because I hear that A nurses are the best and are super smart. C=degrees... yeah right. Oh by the way, I would never want a C nurse to be my nurse. Nor do I want a nurse that had to take boards 6 times before passing. There should be a law against it!!!!!
