Hi All!
I'm a crazy father of 2 ex-premed who just recently turned down Northwestern to go into a RN program.
I already have an Associate in Science, but I'll be getting another ADN and then go to a 4 yr school.
When I went to an info session about the RN program ill be trying to get into, out of like 70 ppl only 5 were guys.
So I want to know are there any men out there?
45 year old VA Safety Specialist who wanted to go back to nursing, out of 145 students at Lakeview College of Nursing in Danville Il, I believe they said 19% were male, although in my almost graduating class in 65 days there are only 5 of us. It is getting better, and try to talk males into going into the program a lot earlier, i am sure this would have been a lot easier at 25 years of age, rather than 45. Have worked EMS for almost 20 years, love it all............
Guys (We) are here and are the minority.I am 45 almost 46, and heading down the stretch to complete my RN. Glad your here, write to me if you need to, best of luck-Randy

Hello Men - I'm a senior at a baccalaureate nursing program in Rochester, NY. I've worked in jobs that were mostly women (taking care of developmentally disabled folks, 15 years) and jobs with only men (carpentry, 20 years). I can't make any generalizations about men or women as colleagues except that people are people; everyone brings something different to the job and we need to learn from every situation that we encounter. I think that people in the health care field tend to be altruistic and lifelong learners, and it has been my experience that gender has not been a factor in nursing school. Everyone seems to accept men as nurses and I think that I have had the same opportunities in clinical experience as women students. Good luck to you all!
Hey all,
The name is LV, and I am a student here in Lakeland, FL. I started college a few years ago, and ended up taking a break to help my family through some tough times. Finally going back, trying to get into A&PI this spring (its the only class holding me up now) I'm pursuing my ADN, and considering BSN/MSN later. These boards have been great for support, and I'm glad to see a good group of guys here too.

Well said. I couldn't agree with you more.

Guy soon to be in BSN nursing here.....
It is a small male community in nursing but I think the opportunities for both male and female are limitless....that's why I'm changing careers for the third time. I've been working in IT for seven years and that seems to be a dead end street after the dot com fall. I've spoken with many people in nursing (both male and female) and I've yet to hear of someone say that they regretted going into it!
Good luck.....
