The election 2024 Thread

Published

I traditionally have a thread heading to the election, here we go.

Get out the popcorn for this one.

Quote

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to formally announce next week he is running for president in 2024, NBC News reported Thursday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.

The governor's official entry into the Republican primary field will put him head-to-head with former President Donald Trump, the party's current frontrunner for the nomination. Trump has already spent months treating DeSantis as his primary campaign rival, thrashing him with torrents of criticism over his gubernatorial record, his political skills and his personality.

I call Trump's multiple failed business ideas examples of failing forward.  He managed to bankrupt casinos and multiple other business ventures.  He stole from a charity.  He grifted off of his presidency.

Fair enough.

I've failed it forward my entire life...flunked out of college, two failed relationships, couldn't succeed at a few jobs, made a many bad financial decisions, drove drunk, hurt people along the way, and generally hate myself sometimes, but at least now I'm honest and kind to people.  I'm not a convicted felon, so there is that.

And yet he has your vote and about 70 million others.

It shows the advantages of generational wealth in a capitalist society which worships billionaires regardless of their character.  Trump has failed forward his entire life.

I don't think you can call a billionaire business man a failure LOL.

You are also respectful and polite. You will admit truths even when they don't go perfectly with your political choice.

You once said your opinion or vote doesn't matter. That's not true. You have a better chance of swaying someone like me than baloney does. I find I want to take your points into consideration. As you are genuine and have integrity.

And you're not a felon LOL.

I disagree. He's well trained. By a kkk/nazi sympathizer and a closeted gangster, among others. He's also too clever by half and has learned to use golden escalators. But he can't think his way out of a paper bag and never could. Remember when  people thought the Enron crowd were the smartest guys in the room, once upon a time?

Don't let the pricey PR fool you. He's the Peter Princple incarnate.

Who is this "kkk nazi sypathizer" that has  trained Trump who's own administration can't get him to shut his mouth to save him an election and legal cases?

But you support a candidate who is not respectful and is not polite.  A man who will never admit truths which reflect badly upon him.  You support a man for president who has no integrity and is possible the most disingenuous person in out political history.

You support a felon.  You support a man who stole from a charity and defrauded students and who is a sexual abuser.

I'm not trying to sway your opinion, I'm telling you my opinion while sharing information and engaging in discussion with members. It's exactly like the reality that you aren't trying to away my opinion, your representing your thinking and your opinions and values in these threads.

Stupid in ways which should disqualify him for the office.  The man is mentally ill and unfit.  Just listen to him.

And, with the failures he's had there have been many more successes.

And, he's gained a lifetime of experience with all that.   Whereas most politicians,  including out current president who's been in politics for decades, have zero experience in running a business, employing people, negotiating business deals, etc.

Trump has a lifetime of wealth and privilege and a history of failures.  He experienced that he could cheat contractors out of their contractual fees and get away with it because they couldn't afford the legal battle.

Running the federal government isn't like running a business, the priorities are different... especially for a malignant narcissist like Trump.

Trump indeed has a lifetime of wealth and privilege, but much of that wealth he created himself.  At the end of the day with him sitting with several billion dollars of assets, despite the failures, I will have to call him successful.

We don't always choose a President that's a career politician.  Eisenhower had a military career, very different from being a politician.

Trump has long been involved in politics and has made commentary.  It's interesting to see how he turned that into winning the Presidency.   For years without proof he said Obama wasn't born in the US and it was his anti-Obama stance I think that enamored a lot of what is now his base.  He later flip flopped and said Obama was born in the US but then made up a new story that Mrs. Clinton started the birther controversy.

I disagree with your description of trump as a wealth creator.

Trump created wealth the same way Enron and Madoff did: by cooking his books and lying like a rug. There's a reason his company was convicted of fraud and his lifelong CFO did prison time.

If that's your idea of creating wealth, I've got some truth social stock you might be interested in.

Or a football league.

Or an airline.

Or a casino in Atlantic City.

The dude's a nepo baby whose only skill is in finding the next golden escalator ( my term for Michelle Obama's "affirmative action of wealth”).

I also disagree that Trump should be considered a successful business man.  He is as corrupt as they come.  He is a malignant narcissist who is in the midst of a significant mental health challenge while experiencing a dementia related cognitive decline.

I agree with Heron that Trump lied and cheated and scammed most of the wealth that wasn't given to him.  He even tried to scam family out of wealth when his father died.
