Yeah, thanks for rubbing it in. I traded in those 12's years ago, I thought I was all that `cause I'd be M-F, 8-5, no weekends, no holidays, no on-call, no one barfing on my scrubs or pulling out my hair with a King Kong drug-induced grip. Yep, I showed you, now I get to look forward to a salary, at least 60 hrs/week, and the same $ (less shift differential). Dang I'm smart. Woot.
I do like the shifts and can't wait to be done with orientation so I can go back to my night shift 3 days a week. I do like the 3 days a week + self scheduling so I can schedule myself Saturday, Sunday, Monday, go on vacation Tuesday or Wednesday then come back and work Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
Youth has it's advantages. Try 12 hour night shifts with an hour's drive each way when you're on the far side of 50. It's not all cake and ice cream then!
No, no, no, I don't want to hear this! I'm past 50 and starting nursing school this fall. I was looking forward to those 12 hour shifts and the free time. Please. someone out there tell me oldsters can do the 12 hour shifts! (One friend in her early 60s does them; she says she's tired the first day off but is just fine the rest of the time.)
@ Seattle: I work 2 12s back to back, Sat/Sun PMs. I am also within barking distance of age 60. I've been doing this for 12 1/2 years & have no problem with it. The best part of all is driving home on Monday morning when everybody else is dealing with Blue Monday & I get to sing to myself, "It's the weekend, baby!" Bwahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Ok, every time I weary of 12 hr shifts and long for a regular job, I think 'how great is it to have all this midweek fun time!'!
