The ANA is worthless, looks down on floor nurses, don't join!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

The ANA has decided to turn their backs on RNs in Massachusetts. The people of Massachusetts have spoken and want to vote on the matter of nurse-patient ratios this November. The ANA, through their local Mass. affiliate, has decided to oppose the nurses who put this on the map.

A short history. The ANA has been parading around a similar bill for over a decade with zero success. They can't handle the fact that another organization, let alone a union, has found some traction. The ANA has decided to play politics and stand jealously in their way.

If you aren't a member, keep it that way. If you are a member, cancel your payments and send an email to leadership. If you're a student, don't let their reps off-the-hook and ask the tough questions when they come to your campus.

Quite simply, this is some petty B.S. from a do nothing body of suits who sit in their DC offices while floor nurses break their backs with ridiculous assignments.

Disclaimer: I have no membership with any of the nursing organizations who support or oppose this bill.

Don't believe for a second that this debate is motivated by anything other than money. In corporate health care, mandated staffing ratios translate to higher operating costs (less revenue) and without strict legislation in place that will levy heavy sanctions, these corporations will circumvent the requirements every time. The ANA is is in bed with these large health care conglomerates-don't delude yourself into believing otherwise. IMHO, the ANA is compromised of so many so called 'educated idiots', who are far, far removed from direct nursing care, but somehow feel that they are the voice for our profession. Has someone said before, "give me a ******* break"!

The MA staffing proposition includes monetary penalties for violating the mandated ratios.

The ANA , humph I was a member at the beginning of my career, soon I realized it was like burning money I did not have. They are useless. They are invisible.Save your money do not join.

Has no one bothered to read their Glassdoor reviews? Bullying, hatefulness, unethical, etc. It strikes me as odd that we still look to the ANA to guide our "code of ethics" as professional nurses, when they can't even abide by the same virtues that they speak about.

Not a fan of the ANA here. It is a bureaucratic leech living off your dues and providing very little real world application (does provide nurses who have accumulated tons of education and abbreviations jobs away from nursing though!) . A lot of people sitting in a office soliciting you for money and sending out repetitive news letters. Overall the real problem with nursing as profession in the US is it has very weak political power and representation. It is competing with hospital lobbyist and corporate interest at federal and state levels.

The ANA is worthless to actual nursing...don't give them money.

Well said. I'd also add that based upon a recent audit that was made public, the ANA isn't cozied up tight to anyone but those you mentioned. Membership seems to be around 75,000....quantified, possibly less than 2% of nurses!

I don't care for the ANA because of their BLATANT, VOCIFEROUS, left-wing political bias. Will never be a member.
