Thank you for your kind words and understanding. It is awesome that you want to be a nurse!
Whatever you decide to do, PLEASE PLEASE keep writing. We need journalists like you to let the public know what we do! Give us names in photographs (so many say "Dr. Smith and a nurse"), show that it takes compassion and intelligence, that we know more than how to fluff a pillow. No one will know unless people like you tell them! Put nursing on the front page...
and welcome to allnurses!

Greetings, all. This is my first time here.
I'm not a nurse myself, although I'm seriously considering making a career change to become an RN. Right now, I'm a healthcare journalist who writes primarily about the nursing profession and related topics and issues. I guess you could say I'm a friend of the profession.
I've met hundreds of nurses during my career and -- despite the challenges you face each day -- the majority are caring, intelligent professionals who provide excellent and compassionate patient care.
I wanted to take a moment to say "thank you" for all the work you do. Your hard work and dedication goes unrecognized most of the time, and you work in the shadow of physicians and other so-called profit generators within hospital systems.
A hospital could function with a few doctors, but let's see what would happen if we lost our nurses ...
Have a wonderful day.
