  1. dthfytr.... i too have had my final back injury and just took my test to see the degree of disability i have. my md put me on "sedentary" work restriction, and i could not believe this happened to be a topic! unfortunately a sitting job in an office is not going to work for me. sitting is torture! i will be following this post, and i hope you continue to contribute to this....i can empathize with you!
  2. Oh, and the reason I asked about quality is due to the fact that my micro prof merely read to us out of the book and put the book illustrations on the overhead. No lecture, no answering of questions. I didn't learn a thing....
  3. ramble on! 8-2 is perfect since i work 3-11. the waiting list must be insane...when i inquired at mountainside for the quickie diploma, they said i could not start until 2011. ccm has no waiting list, or so they said...i just want to finally finish. i was 5 months out of finishing my lpn to rn bridge in tennessee when i blew my knee out and had to leave school. so frustrating....talk to ya soon!
  4. well, i certainly don't want to bore you! ok, since i have been worked to death lately, here are specifics i can come up with at the moment: 1) what are school day hours 2) what are clinical hours, and do they offer day or evening choices 3) do you have to go to one hospital or many for all but psyche 4) do you feel you are getting an excellent education how's that for now?
  5. thank you!!! now i just have to find out about what kind of work hours i can juggle around the schooling. i have to work at least 30 hrs a week while in school. (it can be done)
  6. good lord, really? 12 hrs several days a week? i am married with 3 kids and i have to work....that will not do...i swear there is such an uproar about nursing shortages presently and to come, but the programs make it nearly impossible to accomplish. insane!
  7. I hope someone can suggest a good nursing agency to work for in northern NJ. From looking online, it seems most of the jobs are either in central or Southern Jersey. If you work for one in north Jersey do you like it? Definitely tell me why you hate it if that is the case. Thanks, Guys!
  8. no one? i'm changing my name to "threadkiller"....
  9. I am seriously considering applying to Ramapo and would appreciate any feedback. I have been an LPN for 6 years and a diploma program, while shorter, will only be a stepping stone to the BSN and I may as well just go straight for it. Any input pro or con would be appreciated.
  10. there seems to be such an underlying sense of one-upmanship that pervades the nursing/medical fields. "oh, you're an lpn? how nice for you...when will you get your rn?" when the rn is achieved, "oh. just an rn? why not seek an advanced degree?" now there are doctorate degrees in nursing. well, why not be a doctor? well, why not be a specialist? good patient care takes a team. if everyone is at least a bsn, can you imagine what healthcare costs will skyrocket to? cna's phased out, lpn's phased out, adn's phased out. is this the future of nursing? i hate to say it, but i let this thread make me feel a bit ashamed to still be an lpn.
  11. I was made in the South, but my birth defect was being born in NJ. I moved to the South as soon as possible, and thought I left Jersey behind. I wanted to leave for all of the reasons you listed, and was never going to look back. Of course, we are back after 13 years because my husband got a job offer he couldn't refuse. I still have my Tennesee tag on my truck, and my rebel flag tag in the front. I refuse to conform to the pace and culture. We got just as much done in the South without mowing each other down. NJ has changed so much since we were here, and I feel like we are in a netherworld. I work for a home health company that has offices in the South and in NJ, so getting a job was not an issue, but the way of life is an issue. My children seem to have forgotten their Southern manners. They used to say "Yes, Sir," and "Yes, Ma'am" and they were different people. The adjustment has been difficult, but I have to show them that we can retain our culture just as well as any other foreigner coming to the area. I am not ashamed of where I came from. Nursing has actually helped in the transition because I go into "emotional distance" mode and maintain who I am and who my family is in spite of what goes on around us. My husband and I are in a unique position to already be familiar with the area but not truly a part of it. I count the days until I can go home, but believe me, Southerners sticking to their guns can get along just fine here. Stay true to your values and upbringing. Let the rest of them rush around and chase their tails. Sorry so chatty, but these thoughts were coming quickly! As for the rest of my fellow transplants: remember to the Northerners we are dangerous...we are Southerners with an education!
  12. PS. We dont pump our own gas!! I moved up North from the South recently (6/8) and the attendant freaked out when he heard my truck door open and flew over to me as if I were a criminal! I had to literally tell myself out loud and chant "DO NOT GET OUT OF THE CAR" when I stopped for gas after that!

i have aggressively begun seeking another job, and plan on changing by june 1. i finally have a vacation coming at the end of may (my first!) and do not plan to return. i have applied to many on the internet, and have a relatively local town to go to and fill out a hard copy application. it may not be out of the home health world, but at least it will be a different environment. i will be able to break out altogether when i get definite word from my college about finally finishing my lpn to rn program. it will only take about 6 months, and then i am free!!! i thank you all for all of the support! i never thought i would not look forward to going to work, but having it happen now is definitely a red flag.

i have never felt so used. the office guilting me into taking all those hours, the family demanding that i be there, and the resentment that surrounds me. i was only trying to be there for my client, and do my absolute most meticulous best, but it is not enough.

miss otter, my first vacation ever is at the end of may, and is of all things a family reunion. thank god for that! i am ready to cry my eyes out. i have bent over backwards for these clients and my family benfitted from the paycheck, but that is the only way anyone won. i feel the parent will alienate everyone from the case and take a sick martyr role that the parent is the only one who cares about the client's welfare, which is deeply untrue. the spiral has started.
