4th of July, no time and half

Published

Just found out that as far as managment is concerned the Holiday is Monday. So those of us working this evening are doing it for straight time. (insert obsenities here) :angryfire Which means all the people off this weekend are going to picnics and fireworks and coming back tomorrow(Monday) to get time and a half.

Wow Hypnotic Nurse, 18 hours a month! Only 6 a month here. But reading this no holiday pay for a lot of you, that really sucks. I am off today (sorry to those of you working) but I haven't heard of no pay for the holiday(s) not just today. I think a lot of us need to hang together--as the famous quote, "We must all hang together or we we will assuredly hang seperately."

We get a whopping $1 per hour extra, plus the $1 per hour extra for the weekend..........can you believe my great luck???? :angryfire I have tomorrow off, but all the other 'blue-bloods' have it off AND they get paid for the whole darn day.......I worked 12 today, so I got $12. Gee, I think I'll go out and buy me something nice..........what about a package of new white undies???

Isn't there a law or something that says you get paid time and half for 'official' holidays????

Thanks to all of you who are dedicated and who don't call off on these 'holidays'.......

After reading all of these posts, I'm soooo glad I work for the State of Utah...I get paid for all federal and state holidays. Plus I work human being hours, 0830 to 1730 with an hour for lunch not to mention great bennies...been there and done that...granted I took a big cut in pay but it was sure worth it. I hope I never have to work in a hospital setting again. 11 yrs of floor duty and the BS that goes with it is not worth it, I don't care if they paid me $100/hr.

we get time and a half for every holiday. i just can't believe how many hospitals don't pay for holidays. my department also offered $300 bonuses for RN's to pick up for today because they didn't want to pay agency. i just don't see how hospitals get away with treating people like they don't have a life and families. at least make it worth it for them to come in on a holiday.

i work nights so last night saturday into sunday am was my holiday. wont add that we get 2 1/2 times pay. :p rj-- and those who dont work get staight time for it.

hark!! methinks i detect the presence of a union contract in action.

subliminal advertising >>>>> national union...national union...national union

In the past I worked for employers that gave holiday pay to the people who actually work on it and set the Monday as the paid holiday for management.

I am seeing more and more of what I consider our patriotic holidays ignored or only marginally acknowledged and another date (usually a Monday) passed off as "observed".

It disturbs me. How long before Thanksgiving is officially changed to the third Friday in November (rather than Thursday)? Last year my children had a "teachers work day" (no school) on Monday, November 10th and had to go to school on Veterans Day (Tuesday Nov. 11). I come from a family with may Veterans, we attend the ceremonies every year. Last year I had to pull my children out of school to attend.

I feel really lucky now. I get double time. I'm off today but I still get 8 hours of holiday pay. sorry guys!
