It’s probably too early to start this thread.. but is anyone planning on applying to TTU’s ABSN program for 2022?

If you don’t mind me asking. What were your stats? Also, what were the interview questions like?

Thanks for the info!

Did you have previous healthcare experience when you applied? On the Q&A session, it was mentioned that those with healthcare experience get preference. Does that ring true for your cohort?

@Nicci808 it was for me. I had about 9 months experience as a patient care tech in the hospital setting. I do know that there are several in our cohort with no prior medical experience though. We have several teachers and others with non-medical backgrounds so it’s definitely not a must!

Thank you for the insight. I just started working as a PCT in a hospital and wondered if that would increase my chances. Applying for the Dallas cohort only and want to see how this will work in my favor, especially since Dallas is the most competitive site according to one of the administrators.

@robertaj my overall and science GPA were both around 3.3 but I also had everything done before applying. The way I understand it, you get extra “points” for certain things - so I completed CNA, BLS, medical terminology, everything before applying so I could get the extra points for having those done. My first degree is from Texas Tech as well which I think also gives you additional consideration, and I had almost a year of medical experience.

As far as the interview, I honestly don’t remember a ton about it except that it was on zoom bc of covid and it was a panel style interview with two faculty members from other sites. I’d say be prepared to talk about all the typical stuff (strengths, weaknesses, why you want to be a nurse, etc) and also be able to talk about your support system, how you are with time management, any previous experience with online coursework, etc

I got that she said it might be favorable but it won't be a deciding factor.

Hi everyone! Applying to the Austin cohort here. Wondering what types of things yall listed on the "activities & distinctions" part of the application - I haven't done much community service in the last few years but have a broad range of healthcare experiences. Any input is appreciated!

July 15th…deadline!! Good luck everyone! So excited!!

@allipalmer and anyone else who will and has graduated from this program….if you are in the Austin cohort, do you have a graduation in Austin? Or back in Lubbock?

Specializes in ICU.

@DCV we haven't gotten details yet, but my understanding from previous cohorts is that we are invited to walk at the official graduation in December in Lubbock but most cohorts also plan their own graduation party/dinner here in Austin! The one in Austin is student-organized though. The only school-sponsored graduation event is the ceremony in Lubbock. I think a few of us are planning to go though! My first degree is from Tech so it has a special place in my heart and I'd love to go back and visit campus again, especially at Christmas when it's all lit up! (Google "Texas Tech Carol of Lights" if you aren't familiar with it - it's a fun tradition that they do every year around the beginning of December!)

I'm too excited to wait! Has anyone heard back from Tech? ? ?

The last few cohorts heard back around august 14-23
