Texas Board of Nursing-discrepancy- help need advice!!!!!!

Hello all, I was recently accepted to a nursing program in houston and my name at my school is different from that of my drivers license and social by one letter that being the last letter of the first name. I called the school and they told me that it would probably be a problem for board of nursing since they have already submitted names to get finger printed and receive clearance card. Has this ever happened to anyone? My name can either use an a or an e at the end either way it sounds the same but my school has the e at the end and my social and drivers license have the a at the end of first name. I hope this doesnt keep me from starting the program. I have come this far. The school told me they would call the board of nursing to fix it but since they are really strict they wouldnt be able to tell me the turn around time. Maybe I am just worrying too much about this. So worried

Please advise anyone or let me know if you have had a similar experience. I want to call the board of nursing so bad to ask myself but I dont want to if the wonderful ladies at the school are trying to help with this.

In this day and age, it's even difficult to get on a plane if the spelling of your name isn't the same. You've already waited until "later" to do nothing about this, so get your birth certificate out, go to the DMV and get this fixed already.

OP - I'd give it a couple days and follow up with the school and see if they've been able to get a hold of anyone and what the progress is. I'm sorry this happened to you

The first responder was simply stating the truth: regardless of nursing school or whatever, in this day and age, folks should be taking care to ensure that their legal documents are accurate and up to date. OP obviously was aware of the issue and had not yet moved to fix it. Waiting "a couple of days to get a hold of anyone" could literally be lethal to OP's case. "Sooooo, you KNEW there was an issue, but you took no steps to fix it?"

"Nice" has nothing to do with the situation. "Truth" is more important. Some would even say that the brutal truth IS the nice.

Answers should only only be given from a position of knowledge.

The school mispelled her name and it's her fault that how the school spelled it doesn't match the legal documents? My name is commonly mispelled, should I go change all my legal documents to reflect that? I guess your "truth" is different than mine

Not sure what god had to do with this. Oh wait, yes I do, nothing.

OP, if the school made a mistake and submitted your name with a typo, then you need to get on their butts until they correct the error. If your name is misspelled on your license and social security card, then you need to get them fixed ASAP. Ultimately, you are going to have to be diligent in following through to be sure the error is corrected.

As an aside, I'm curious about your statement that your name can be spelled ending with an a or an e. Did you mean generally speaking? As in different individuals spell your name in one of those two ways? If you have been allowing two different spellings of your name... you need to stop allowing that practice. Your name *for you* should have only one spelling.

I have a last name that seems to get misspelled a lot. People want to leave a letter out of it. I can spell it and write it and people will still misspell it. I say that the OP needs to stay on tope of it with the school to get it corrected. From her post, it sounds like the school sent in the wrong spelling. Unless you have a name that can be misspelled or spelled a couple of ways, it is hard to understand how this happens. I have lived it with both my name at birth and my married name.

I think God expects us to take care of our business rather than sitting back and expecting him to handle it.

As someone whose last name is frequently misspelled (a more common last name is identical except for one added letter), I can sympathize with your situation. You may need to be really assertive with the school to make sure this is changed. Name discrepancies can cause some major headaches. I wouldn't just sit back on my heels and assume it's going to be corrected. Advocate for yourself.

Bureaucracy is awful. We all agree. I was prevented from boarding a flight recently because of a typo on the reservation that I hadn't noticed. Had to get it fixed before I could travel the next day. These small issues can be infuriating, but they have to be dealt with.

Hop on your school to correct the spelling to match your legal documents. Other people can spell their name however they want to but you must pick a spelling and stay consistant or it will lead to enormous mistakes. You may not be able to take NCLEX, passport may be invalidated, insurance may not pay for claims, etc. We couldn't hang blood on a guy because they left out a middle initial on his wrist band so it didn't match the order for the blood. My wife almost got stuck in Mexico because her passport didn't match her new marriage license. Had to call family members to fax a document to clear things up.

Sounds like a school problem not Board of Nursing.
