Moving to Memphis

U.S.A. Tennessee

Published

Hello all, I am planning to move to Memphis at the beginning of the year. I am a new LPN. Does anyone know of places that hire new LPNs and what the average salaries are for new LPN's in Memphis? I am reasearching myself but I don't know anyone who works in Healthcare in Memphis and here in Illinois, LPN's are paid more in nursing homes, is that also true in Memphis?

Specializes in ER.

I don't know about the pay in Nursing homes, but I know a lot of hospitals in Memphis are no longer hiring LPN's, they're being phased out. I know one LPN in Memphis who told me that the only hospital still hiring is The Med downtown. Also nursing homes.

Specializes in Emergency Department.

The baptist system has a few LPN openings listed I believe. I also know someone who was an LPN at Lebonheur before becoming an RN.

Specializes in Geriatrics, Cardiac, ICU.

I don't know about the pay, but I work with LPN's at Methodist as well.

You can find a job as a LPN in Memphis,TN. True they are trying to phase them out but it won't happen any time soon. Also, its many LPN's who work at the VA downtown among many other places. I don't know of the pay rate though sorry.

Good move. I live in Illinois and I from Memphis. My best friend just started LPN school Jan.2,2007. She is doing wonderful. I am getting my associates in nursing and I am returing home. Memphis is a great place to live and from what I hear they still hire LPN's. Best of Luck to you!

I wouldn't go that far.:uhoh21: :uhoh21:

Specializes in Med Surg, Burn Unit, Peds, Ob/GYN.

I know for a fact that all of the major hospitals in town still do hire LPNs (I debated on leaving my company recently and began the search). Nursing homes do pay a higher rate and I would go as far as to say the highest rates you will get here. I work for UT Medical Group in a private practice office (I just moved from a different dept.). I decided on this route for myself because I have small children and being home at night and on the holidays is important to me. The Commercial appeal had many LPN listing this past weekend. You can find work easily here...it just depends on whats important to you...do you want more money or more time with your family?

Specializes in Float.

I do not know about the Memphis hospitals hiring new grad LPNs..but I do know the Jackson hospital hires new grad LPNs. I would think if they do..Memphis might because they REALLY need nurses badly in Memphis.
