CMA vs LPN.. Who is the NURSE??
I work for a large company, we have everything from Office Assistants to RNs in our offices. I am an LPN and it bothers me that the CMAs in the office refer to themselfs as NURSES. They have often said that they dont know why I am there because they can do everything that I can do. This is not the case. They do everything I do but its not in their scope of practice and I made it very clear that I will not assist them in doing things that are not in that scope. I refer them to the supervising nurse and she assists them. I just dont like the fact that I went to school, worked hard, sweated through state boards and got my license and they call themself nurses. Am I right for feeling this way?

Moving to Memphis
I know for a fact that all of the major hospitals in town still do hire LPNs (I debated on leaving my company recently and began the search). Nursing homes do pay a higher rate and I would go as far as to say the highest rates you will get here. I work for UT Medical Group in a private practice office (I just moved from a different dept.). I decided on this route for myself because I have small children and being home at night and on the holidays is important to me. The Commercial appeal had many LPN listing this past weekend. You can find work easily here...it just depends on whats important to you...do you want more money or more time with your family?

Why SHOULDN'T one smoke in Amsterdam?
I know the school I went to did random screening and one girl got kick out of the program for a positive test. With that said...it will show up for 30 days with urine and 6 months in a hair sample...think about it. Enjoy your trip whatever you decide to do!!

Problem at work...I posted in general before I found this area of the site
OK that made me laugh...thank you!! I know there is one in every office and hospital floor but I just feel like you should be proud of the job you do no matter what that job is and you should try your best to atleast attempt to work.

To be honest...this week has been totally awful for me and I know if I try to talk to the clinic manager I will either break down in tears or cuss her out and get fired...neither of which I want to happen. And I am rather new at this office (I have only been there 9 months). I did go to the other LPN (who is suppose to be the "supervisor") and talk to her. She said "I am suppose to be walking the floor and watching her but I just dont have the time since I am so busy in the office". Then she got up and walked around for about 2 minutes and went back to her desk. This girl is either on the phone with personal business, or on the computer doing personal business or entering immunization to the electronic medical charts (which we all agreed would be done when the clinic was slow). We can be up to our eyes in work with charts backing up and patients mad and she is on the phone or we cant find her at all!!!! She takes 2 hour lunches and comes and goes as she pleases. Its just.....:angryfire !!! I am sorry I am unloading but if I dont get it out I will scream!!

I am an LPN at a very busy RPG pediatric clinic. I just graduated in September but I am not new to the medical field. I know that some people just dont work but the situation I am currently in bothers me more than I think it should. In my clinic there are two LPN's and 3 CMA's. First let me say that two of these girls work their butts off on a daily basis and never comlpain. The third girl however NEVER works. She can and will find anything to make her look busy so she does not have to check in patients and such. I am the floor LPN and the other LPN works the office answering the phone and returning patient calls. We had an office meeting last week about this "problem of someone not doing their part" (everyone was there except the one girl who does not work). The clinic manager asked US if we wanted this girl fired. Well we dont want to see anyone out of a job and thats not for us to decide. So she said that this girl would be moved to a specialty clinic and that someone new would be hired for our clinic and that this girl would go back on probation. I was off last friday and this past monday and when I retunred to work this girl was still there and on top of it they gave her a shift that everyone there was asking to have. So they rewarded her for doing a bad job basically. We are all hot over it now. And to make it even worse I found out from one of our attending docs that this is not the first time they have done this with her. Now, let me say...I dont have a problem with working hard to earn my money but I do have a problem with working like a dog and picking up the slack for someone else and that person being rewarded for being a bad employee!! HELP!! I am currently looking to transfer within the company to another office because I can not stand to watch anyone work like we do when we should not have it so hard if this one girl would just get off her butt and work!! :angryfire

Why did you take up nursing? What's your story?
My best friend was a nursing student who decided to go pre-med. She use to nag me about going to nursing school so that I could be her nurse. She passed away in a house fire after her first semester pre-med. I decided that since she wanted me to and kept telling me how great I would be at it that I would try!!!
