Temple College 2015

Published

Hello, I just wanted to start a thread for those of us applying for the LVN or RN programs at Temple College for 2015. We can share information, discuss any concerns, talk about the HESI exam, getting cleared through the Board of Nursing, or the just nursing program in general! Those of you that are already in the program are more than welcome to chime in.

PLEASE NOTE: I am in no way taking responsibility for any wrong information given, nor will I moderate this thread. I just want to meet new friends and support one another through the process of applying and getting our acceptance letters!

Has anyone thought of applying to Austin Community College as

a last resort? I have heard that CTC is probably the hardest and

most competitive to get into in this area. It also seems like MCC

has a better chance to get into since they don't have as many

people applying compared to TC.

I wouldn't waste time with ACC. They have an incredibly long wait list. It's one of the most competitive junior college programs to get into because it's in such a large city and so many people are trying to get in.

i've applied at MCC along with temple (with temple being the plan B). To be honest my experience with MCC has been a lot better than with TC. I get the feeling that they genuinely care about your success and will do all they can to help you get into the program at MCC. They have a really good Nursing facility there as well that is brand new.

For the RN program they have two times in the year you can apply, one in May and another in September. They also have an LVN application deadline coming up in a few weeks.

I also forgot to mention that their point system is a little bit more fair. And on the application there's a spot where you can list related experience which I think is pretty fair as well.

I did not apply anywhere else yet but in the middle of applying to CTC as well, just in case Temple doesn't work out.

If you have over 93 hours, you can't get any kind of financial aid at CTC. Since I need the help paying tuition, they are not even an option for me.

Really? That's stupid. I wonder why that is.

That's a federal thing. You should be able to file a petition. I have to do this every semester at TC since I've already completed 140+ hours with my bachelors plus prereqs for nursing. The admissions counselor I worked with at TC said there are quite a few nursing students who have to file a petition every semester for the same reason. But, as long as you are continue in the program with appropriate grades and completion rate, the petitions are approved.

I have to file a financial aid appeals with TC also. CTC told me they do not have a appeal process for over the limit students. My husband and I both tried. What makes it worse is that I live just outside the TC district and just inside the CTC district.

So for people with previous other degrees.....when your talking about the financial

aid at TC is that mainly loans or do they provide scholarships or grants that don't

have to be repaid?

How do you go about filing the petition?

I am talking about the federal financial aid like (un)subsidized loans and grants. I believe the TC college foundation does have a scholarship you can apply for. I just have an AAS and about 150 hours. At TC, all you have to do is go to the financial aid office and file an appeal. I just heard about the Workforce commission program the helps pay for certain programs including LVN and ADN. It's called WIA or workforce investment act. Worth looking into if you need help paying tuition or books.

Does anyone have any experience, or maybe has applied before to the ADN program? Right now, I am accepted into the VN program, and holding off on registration, until the acceptance letters come at "the end of May." I am getting very nervous, and wonder if anyone had any dates or a better idea of when these letters will come!
