Temple College 2015

Published

Hello, I just wanted to start a thread for those of us applying for the LVN or RN programs at Temple College for 2015. We can share information, discuss any concerns, talk about the HESI exam, getting cleared through the Board of Nursing, or the just nursing program in general! Those of you that are already in the program are more than welcome to chime in.

PLEASE NOTE: I am in no way taking responsibility for any wrong information given, nor will I moderate this thread. I just want to meet new friends and support one another through the process of applying and getting our acceptance letters!

Specializes in Pediatrics, Oncology.

There are a number of people with tablets and laptops. However, u don't really need one, as the notes are in the packets u have to buy for each class OR they are put on d2l for u to print.. and there is room to write your own notes to the side. :)

Nobody had the e-books.. u flip around in the books so much, it would be kinda hard to keep up... plus I mark important tables in the books with sticky pads so they are easy to refer to. Andddd when the there are open book quizzes, u are only allowed to use ur handwritten notes and book, no electronics.

Congratulations to many of you that have been accepted!!

I will be graduating next week from the LVN program at the taylor campus!!

I wish i could of stayed and talked to some of you guys who came to orientation! get ready for a life changing year!

ALL 3 of your instructors are great and offer 3 different teaching styles that you will benefit from!!

Also wanted to let anyone who doesn't have their books yet that i have all the books for the entire year and will be selling them for 425.

you can text me at 512-529-5361 ( lisa) or email [email protected]

Feel free to text any questions as well!!

Good Luck everyone!!

Trying to stay positive but looks like I am going to end up with a 3.15 GPA on pre and co reqs. Sure wishing I would be getting in-district points now. Are the admission statistics from past years posted anywhere?

Are you taking into account that Micro is no longer part of the required courses? And how was your HESI score?

I scored 94.67 on HESI. All my pre and co reqs are done. I excluded Micro. I live out of district. Only 2 more weeks until letters, right?!

That's a great Hesi score tho! And good job doing all the extra class, I think you have a good shot. And yup 2 more weeks.... Sigh I need to find out asap lol

I wonder if the ADN program would allow/consider a personal statement or references as attachments to our applications? I hate that the process is so objective. There's no human element to it, it seems. It's just, "Get these numbers." But if I could explain the long, twisting road that has led me to nursing, I feel like I would be a stronger candidate. And I was trained to be CNA by a second year ADN instructor. Shouldn't that count for something? Or some of y'all's experience in the field or in life, etc.? I have a Bachelor's degree and taught mathematics for a year. I'd love to be able to say a few sentences about that.

Anybody else thought about asking if they could submit a short something? I'm thinking about bringing it up with the secretary (Nancy Street) when I turn in my final transcript for this semester. She is always so short with me, though. Really don't like her.

I feel the same way. I have a previous Bachelor's degree in Counseling. I wish that I could tell them that I turned down two counseling graduate programs in order to pursue nursing here. If you find anything out about submitting a personal statement, let me know.

I had a few letters attached to my application. :)

I have thought about writing a personal statement as well, I just didn't know if it would do any good. I definitely think having a bachelor's degree already should give you an advantage. I gotta go hand deliver my transcripts in a couple of days anyway.....

I think the reason they go by the numbers and don't require or take into account personal statements or references is so that the process is objective and fair. At least that away everyone has a fair chance. With personal statements and references then the process becomes subjective and potentially unfair.

My 2 cents...

-They want to select the students they feel will have they greatest chance of success in this degree plan. GPA is a pretty good indicator of the likelihood of success, and the HESI was designed to be a indicator of success as well.

-A Bachelors IMO shouldn't put you ahead of anyone else that applied. Especially if it is in a completely different field.

-Letters of Recommendation/personal letter as was mentioned above seems unnecessary to me

-I am surprised they didn't do a short interview though
