Temple College 2015

Published

Hello, I just wanted to start a thread for those of us applying for the LVN or RN programs at Temple College for 2015. We can share information, discuss any concerns, talk about the HESI exam, getting cleared through the Board of Nursing, or the just nursing program in general! Those of you that are already in the program are more than welcome to chime in.

PLEASE NOTE: I am in no way taking responsibility for any wrong information given, nor will I moderate this thread. I just want to meet new friends and support one another through the process of applying and getting our acceptance letters!

I am going to take the hesi a2 on the 22nd! I am not sure if I will just apply to the lvn course or if I will apply to the adn as well. What are your plans?

Specializes in home health.

I just wanted to say if you have the classes for the adn as well, you should apply to both, I am in the LVN program now and we had many girls that applied with the attitude that they would just apply to ADN just to see what happens and guess what, they are in the ADN program now, good luck, youll love it when you get it in, no matter what route you choose

I am anxious to work in the field. I feel that it is a real calling on my life. I decided that if (when) I get into the LVN program than I will be happy. I won't apply to the RN course. I will just bridge a year later. Maybe the hospital that I start working for will help pay for it then too, not that they have to but it would be nice. My ten year plan includes a bsn at UMHB or wherever and training to be a nurse midwife in dallas. I want to move around with my education, like other states and other countries....

I am going to apply for the ADN program only (yay for putting all of my eggs in one basket)! I received my HESI study guide in the mail today from amazon at half off from what they sell at the college bookstore. I definitely plan to bridge to get my BSN. I already have a B.S. in Counseling and I am hoping that it will help me in some way down the road. UMHB is very nice, just too pricey for me.

Hello,

I am planning to apply for the lvn program as well. I was going to take my hesi a2 test today, the 22nd but decided to take more time studying. I really don't know what to expect. Maldo please let me know how it goes!

The test wasn't too bad. The toughest question the study book did not help with. My advice is to get a general idea about how much mLs are because you have to make an educated guess. & memorize how many km in a mile and kg in a pound and cm in an inch. I made a 97% on hesi, but did the practice test in math before I took it and skimmed through the other two applicable practice tests. The vocabulary was my lowest score even though I memorized all the words in the book, because it uses words not found in the book as well as those in the book. I would advise reading all of the words and memorizing all of them that you do not know and those that have different meanings than you are familiar with. Some of the vocab questions you can guess the meaning from the context but others are simply "What does ______ mean?" But don't underestimate the benefit of studying the words in the book because they are on the test too. It was my lowest single score but I still made a 94% in vocab. My goal was to at least make an 89% so when I saw my score I had a tear rolling down my cheek. I hadn't had much sleep and nervousness turned my stomach where I felt sick, I thought it was going to affect my score.

So your overall score was a 97? That's not bad at all!!! The measurement conversions are my biggest worry.

97? Way to go, Maldo! Thank you for letting us know about your testing experience.

Excellent job on your Hesi, Maldo!! 97 is a great score.

I'm using the exam review available from the bookstore (Admission Assessment Exam Review, 3e: 9781455703333: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com). Did you use the same one? If yes, how did you utilize it? Just by reading through and doing the practice problems in the math, reading, and vocabulary sections?

Also, I heard there are study/review sessions offered on-campus at TC. Did you go to any of these or know any details about them?

I completed my hesi a2 exam this past week and recieved a 94. It was a lot easier than I expected. You have ample enough time, every section includes 55 questions. I used the hesi exam review 3rd edition. I mainly focused on the subjects I found difficult. I read that if you copy the measurement chart twice daily you would better memorize, that helped me out a lot!!! I recieved the lowest score on vocabulary (90%) my strategy for studying vocab. was to make flash cards than when I was comfortable with the words I seperated them. Focusing more on the words I was less comfortable with but studying all each day. For the reading portion I didn't study at all. I find it easy most answer are in the passage. Some question were a little tricky, beware. Other than that it was a relief to see the test for myself. I hope this helps whoevers searching for info. Good luck!

Yes, I used the practice book and worked through the problems. No, I did not take any study sessions with TC.
