  1. Yeah, it's a lot of call. It's not level 1 trauma call at least (I've been there and done that kind of OR call, never again). It's strictly eye surgery. They say they go 3 weekends in a row without being called in at all. I'm finishing my online BSN course in about 9 months so I'll be "stuck" in my apartment writing papers for awhile anyway. The hwy that the commute is on is the 16th worst in America for traffic congestion. I've had to make up my mind already and I'm just going to have to roll with it. Truly thanks for your opinions everyone even if I did end up doing the opposite!
  2. As much as I don't care for call, I'm leaning towards Job 2. I have anxiety when driving in bad weather. Especially in the dark with fog or slick roads early in the morning. The positions are located in the Portland area. I'm relocating from Texas where we have nice sunny days. I know the people at job 1 are extremely nice, but I've only met the charge nurse from job 2. Still conflicted.
  3. Hello all, Which would you rather do if benefits and pay were the exact same? Both are 4 days per week (OR). Job 1) Commute only 16 mins in the morning, but 40mins to 60mins for the way home. No call. Job 2) Only 7 minute commute. Has call 1-2 times during the week and the entire weekend every 5th week. Thank you!
  4. Can I ask why you are going for LVN and not the ADN program? If you are this prepared (on allnurses and studying for the HESI already) I think you should consider both programs. As for prepping for the HESI, be prepared to know the conversions to the metric system. 3 teaspoons.= 1 Tablespoon=15 mL. Also, know ratios and proportions. I was nervous and thought I would run out of time, so I rushed through my first section in order to give myself time for the other sections. DON'T do this... I had more than an hour left when I finished.
  5. Thank you for posting SweetSouthernLove. This is honestly one of the best responses I've read on allnurses.
  6. I can't speak for what it will be like next year, but this year: 8:00 first semester and 6:45 second semester.
  7. They split the class into A group and B group. They are essentially the same except one group will either get out early on Wednesday while the other gets out early on Thursday. I was B group. The first 8 weeks: Mon: 12-4pm Tues:8-4pm Wednesday: 8-2:45 Thursday: 8:30-1:30 The second 8 weeks: Mon: 1-3pm Tues: (on-site clinical)8-3pm Wednesday: 8-2:45 Thursday 8:30-1:30 Hope this helps!
  8. They raised the minimum score to 80 for each three areas on the HESI for ADN 2016. The program is frontloaded during the first 8 weeks, you will feel super busy. The second 8 weeks of the first semester isn't bad, this is when you start going to your clinical sites. They focus on math and other fundamentals, especially skills check-offs. Be prepared for pharmacology to take most of your study time, but you can flashcard in that class and hopefully get through just fine. The new freshman class always start in August. They accepted 58-60 in our freshman class. I know someone that transferred their pharmacology class from another college.
  9. I will go up there in the morning and check on the packets. Do we wear our uniform or regular clothes on Monday? I thought it was regular, but just double checking.
  10. You should be fine to apply for next year (2016). They take applications for the ADN in the spring. They do a point system when determining who gets in to the program. You may not get the 1 point for living in district because you would be living in Killeen.
  11. Did you guys get the e-mail about the nurse pack? Possibly silly question: I know it is supposed to be mailed to the nursing department, so on the form where it asks for address do we put the the nursing department address? Less than a month until we all meet!
  12. Hi Sonya, it was nice to meet you the other day. I'm glad you found us on here! If you have any questions or you have information to share, feel free! -Kate
  13. I'm still waiting as well! I'm going to go up there on Wednesday since that is when the ADN secretary should be back.
  14. Yes... I am going to try to contact the VN secretary tomorrow. :)
  15. No, I haven't received my fastpass yet. I am going to visit my parents in Oklahoma for a couple of weeks and wish I could go ahead and do the fingerprints without the fastpass before I leave, but I'm not sure if that is allowed.
