http://www.whitehouse.gov/contactI sent them an email asking WHY they're approving foreign nurse visas when WE cannot find jobs and there are already enough nurses to fill all the needs right now?The problem with turnover is working conditions not the amount of RN's (when the economy is good). Not to dilute the message; there's NO NURSING SHORTAGE RIGHT NOW so they need to stop all visas and stop all this funding to churn more out until the existing one's can find employment!

Oct 26, 2009 Retrogression has been strictly in effect since 2006, so "foreign nurses" have not been flooding into the U.S. for at least 3 years. It's safer for me to research the erroneous statements that people make, instead of blindly believing them.

Ms.RN 917 Posts Oct 27, 2009 foreign nurses no longer receives work visas but instead receives a green card which means they are a permanent resident of the us. after few years they are eligibile to take the test to become a us citizen, which makes me so mad. i wonder if they also receive help for housing and transportation when they come to us.

caroladybelle, BSN, RN 5,486 Posts Specializes in Oncology/Haemetology/HIV. Oct 27, 2009 As far as I know , retrogression is still in effect. There have been repeated attempt to change that, but much like repeated attempts to enact ratio laws in various states, that does not mean it will come to fruition.Could someone provide a link to the current bill?

Oct 27, 2009 slated january 2010 to be brought up for revision? at least that's what i'm seeing so far. i'll provide a link once i can trace the source.it's best to start the chatter now!we've always had enough nurses in the work force; it's those not coming to work for some reason or another that causes it. shortage is a good thing; job security, higher pay and you're in demand.i'll never forget taking my boards and seeing more than half were from another country. there were the jobs going 20 years ago right in front of me.you can even take the nclex in the philipines; have you seen the schools advertised gauged solely to exporting nurses? hundreds of websites; amazing!http://www.filipinonurses2us.com/http://www.blogcatalog.com/blog/pinoy-rn/c189cfb28e825145e715aaeb7ba6a161a reference source for export nursing schools abroad http://www.minoritynurse.com/?q=filipino-philippine-nurses/philippine-nurses-us%e2%80%94yesterday-and-todayhttp://www.filipinonurses2us.com/filipino_nurses_2_us/2006/11/why_nursing_is_.html "for as long as there are sick people in america, filipino nurses will be in demand."foreign nurse recruiter companies: http://www.manpowerindia.net/nursing-jobs.html

Oct 27, 2009 The problem is that most of these foreign grads are trained so well and have a work ethic that is unbelievable. And I mean unbelievable. They work really hard, and never complain. They do what they are told. Companies/hospitals like that. THAT'S hard to argue with.
