Ok so I have a question. I am going to be starting school soon to be a LPN. My question is I have a pretty good sized tattoo on my left wrist. It isnt offensive, its very pretty. It is a dragonfly. Do you all think I will have problems with employment and people taking me seriously after school is done. I want honest opinions. I will not get offended by anyhting any of you have to say. I am just trying to get all info I can. Thank You!
I clicked in here kinda hoping I would see some cool tats. Can y'all share a pic of your tats?
(Unless it can't be PG-13
)
I mean, if we're gonna sit around and talk about 'em, why not show 'em, right??
I know some folks don't want to share their tats, and that's cool - I just figured some people may want to share.
Unless maybe we should start a new thread for this??
Whaddayathink????
Sure, I'll share as soon as I get a new digital camera. The battery door on my current one is broken off, and unfortunately it houses one of those electrode things. :imbar It's still swollen right now anyway, so I'm sure you wouldn't want to see at this point in time. However, it's nothing too major. I am African American (light skinned, though) so my tat is just black. It is a dancing panda holding three balloons with my children's names in them. It's on my upper arm near the shoulder so it can be easily covered (for the most part) by my scrubs but be visible when I chose for it to be. I LOVE MY NEW TATTOO! (No regrets!)

Many of my patients and their family members would have to disagree with you on that point. Many of them find it frightening. Others, just plain disrespectful and unprofessional.
Are you in the Southeast U.S.? People can be rather conservative.
I know they would prefer their nurses to be virgins. (just kidding)
I have a medium sized Japanese symbol on the inside of my left wrist. I had it done so it was just big enough to wear a watch over it while at work (I found a big, sporty one by Nike that works perfectly.) You could try a watch and bracelet combo while at work maybe. HTH!
That's a great idea. I too have tatoos, but no one would ever know because they are all conceiled,
i have a tat on my right upper arm - big. i have hated it ever since i got it. i have had one laser treatment on it and have 4 more to go - but nursing school is $ so it has to wait. i have been wearing 3/4 ro long sleeve shirts all year around. ugg.
don't show it , cover it ... while in school
Boy, I'd be in big trouble if I had to wear only my wedding band to school as it's soldered to my engagement ring. It moved around too much and I thought it would be best to just have them soldered. I absolutely hate to leave the house w/o my wedding ring. Maybe it's just because I'm a newlywed.I hope this will not be a problem at my nursing school, wherever I go. Actually this is the first time that I've heard of a school being so harsh on wearing jewelry.
Actually, there are very good reasons for not wearing your engagement ring to clinicals. Think about sterile gloving and having your stone tear it..oops!! Or getting it caught when you're making beds. And how would you feel if you were taking care of someone elderly and accidentally ripped their skin with your ring??
I remember what it's like to be newlywed (although it was EONS ago..hehe)...maybe you could buy a plain band to wear to clinical??
To the OP...while *some* may think tats are ok, there are still MANY that don't. Personally, I just don't think they look professional. But hey!! I also starch and iron my uniforms :rotfl:
JMHO, but I can't imagine liking a tattoo 20 years from now...heck, I don't even like the china I picked out 20 years ago.

LOL, I always thought that also, so I waited until I was 40 to get one, the same thing I had envisioned since I was young (small heart, right hip). Got my 2nd one at 45, medium sun, upper left back. I am now in nursing school but neither of mine will show. Think I will have the heart redone on my 50th b'day to include my grandkids names. No piercings, 'cept one hole in each ear, let the other 2 holes grow shut when the grandbabies decided to tug at them.

i'm surprised in all this discussion, that no one mentioned hepatitis c. fairly common around here with tatoos.
probably becuase most of us - if not all, went to someplace clean and reputable.
i've got 4 tattoos, none of them inapropriate, and i'm training to be a cna at a facility where you're aloud to show them - one of the cna's, i was told, as two full arm sleaves, and no one has a problem with it.

I have three tattoos. One on my lower back, one on my right calf, and one on my left ankle. I don't have any that would show in a normal pair of scrubs. I think the policy around here is "no visible tattoos" but if that weren't in place, I certainly wouldn't think differently of a co-worker who had visible tattoos. As long as they're good and safe at what they do, I couldn't care less what decorations they have on them.
