I would suspect so. As a long time migraine sufferer I know any scent at all - food, perfumes, skunk, etc - while I am having a migraine can make it worse. Any noise can make it worse too, and bright lights (try not to flip on bright lights when you go into the pts. room). Perfume and skunk are 2 of my triggers that give me a migraine - so is lack of or interupted sleep. Hope this helps ya and thank you for caring about the migraine patient - a lot of people don't understand or care if they are making it worse or not. Sunny

Thanks, I didn't think so. I am new on the job - new grad - and paranoid about everything. I found a scrape on my other arm and am now worried about how I got that and where - had several iso pts this week. Do you ever get over being worried about every little thing or getting something nasty on the job?

Gave a lovenox inject with a safety needle, while I was closing it I thought the syrnge touched my arm, I looked around and couldn't find any blood or puncture mark, so thought nothing more about it. Didn't feel like a "stick or prick" just something touched me. Should I have reported this?

I agree, that is pretty quick for a diagnosis. I hope you will encourage her to follow up with a second opinion or see a rheumatologist. I have fibro, took over a year of tests to come up with the dx, then I saw 2 more rheumys to be sure. Please give her lots of support while she is figuring this out and especailly if that is the final dx. Sunny

Our class took the HESI in March, we take the Arnett soon. We had about a 50% pass rate (over 850), those who didn't pass have to do the practise tests our school subscribes to on Medpubs - maybe check to see if you can subscribe to it or if your school does? There were things on the test I didn't know, but for those I used the tips that we have been taught . . . figure out what the question is asking - and watch out for negative anwers - like which you don't do, which needs more teaching, etc. don't read more into the question than is there - don't make the patient sicker than they are eliminate any wrong answers and then choose between what is left look for qualifiers - always, never, etc - those answers are probably not the right one look for the answer that is really different - that may be it if all else fails - go with the longest answer Simple - but it does help, I scored pretty high. You might Google "test taking strategies" and see if you can come up with any more tips to help with the questions that you really dont know. Also, do all the practise questions you can to get you in the right mind set. HTH Sunny

I think it is simply "An Indian does not know pain" We had to do presentations presenting "stereotypes" of different cultures, and how to avoid/correct them and how damaging they are, in our nursing program. Is it possible he has autisim or some form of it? If so, it would explain most of his behaviors. He would also be classified as having a disability and the school would legally have to work with him. Most of the kids I have worked with that had autisim had very poor social skills (which was one of the things I worked on with them) but excelled in much of the "book work" at school. Just a thought. (Not talking about nursing students, just elementary-high school students)

Well . . . how was it before? :wink2: Seriously though, depending on the reason she is having it, perhaps it would be better. Her doc should be able to better answer her questions and concerns. From a personal experience, I had to have one at 30, it took a while to get back up to speed so to speak, but no problems at all. Ovaries came out at 40, again no long term affects. Not to be to graphic here, but it took a while for the muscles to heal so that orgasm was not uncomfortable, lubricants help, but are not always necessary. Of course, before my surgeries I never imagined that there would be any problems, perhaps that is why there weren't any. oh yeah, I don't do HRT either. LOL, I always thought that also, so I waited until I was 40 to get one, the same thing I had envisioned since I was young (small heart, right hip). Got my 2nd one at 45, medium sun, upper left back. I am now in nursing school but neither of mine will show. Think I will have the heart redone on my 50th b'day to include my grandkids names. No piercings, 'cept one hole in each ear, let the other 2 holes grow shut when the grandbabies decided to tug at them. sunny

We got checked off on the baths. We had to wear shorts and tank top, and we did use real water - but voted to skip the soap. My friend and I managed to wait until the end so everyone was busy with the next checkoff to do ours and it was ok. I think not having an audience and the fact that we have become friends made it much more comfortable. We had to videotape our proceedure, and we didn't do pericare just talked our way step by step through it. sunny

We just found out we will be practising bed baths on each other Tuesday. We are to bring shorts and a tank top to change into, we only have one guy in our nusing class, poor guy said he is ok with getting one, but really nervous about giving it. We just did repostioning on each other which was no biggie, not sure what else we will be practising on each other. Sunny

A few of us have talked about this, do to the economic conditions here, we seriously doubt we could raise much money, but, supplies are another story. We thought about basic items; toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, etc, pehaps a small comfort item for children? What do you all think? Would this be of help to anyone? Would we send through the red cross, or should we contact a student nurse organization in the area (not affected but on the outskirts) to handle distribution. Any suggestions, comments and such would be appreciated. We need to get this figured out before we attempt anything. Thanks Sunny
