Tattoo cover for clinicals

Published

Hi all,

We are starting our clinical rotations in a few weeks and I am trying to find the best method for covering a vertical tattoo on my neck. Our hair must be pulled up and away from our face and my tattoo will show. I don't do well with latex and I am concerned that I would be distracted if I used a 4x4 band-aid on the back of my neck. Any suggestions for make-up or cover-ups?

Lightweight turtleneck under your uniform top? I cover everything but my face and hands in public and that’s what I do for my neck, if my scarf that day doesn’t cover it.

Maybe someone else can weigh in on makeup... I’ve personally not found a kind that would completely conceal a tattoo. Dermablend maybe? I’ve never used it

If you don't want to wear a turtleneck or something on your neck, Kat Von D Lock It foundation is a very heavy foundation that will cover anything, and it doesn't smudge easily. It's a little pricey, but it lasts a while. You can get it at a Sephora or directly on her site.

I can't wait until the day that we stop thinking that the patient cares if the person giving them their pain meds has a tattoo or not.

Hi all!

Thank you for the comments and advice! I am going to try kinesiology tape (one of my teacher's suggestions) and if that doesn't work, I am going to try to sample Kat Von D and Dermablend. Hopefully one of the three will work!

She is in clinicals. The school may require it to be covered. Any private hospital can require whatever it wants. Many hospitals have dress codes. Not because patients "care" necessarily, but so they look professional or whatever the reason. Personally I could care less, but it is up to the facility.

That will work but it's going to hurt like a mother to remove if it gets stuck in any of the hair on your neck.
