hi stephany !.. i did get one for last semester, thought i would really use it, but didn't use it only one day.
i may still use it yet, but not sure. i think the tapes weren't very long or something.

I had one when i went through LPN school. I used it but found i didnt have time to listen to it. I didnt use one through my RN program.
I also found unless the acoustics are just right in the room that you are using it, it is difficult to understand not only the instructor(you get used to listening and understanding them on tape) but if a classmate has a question the change in voice is difficult to hear and understand. It just ended up being more hassle than just taking good notes and going to the instructor personally for anything i didnt understand.

Boy am I cynical....When I first read the title of this thread I thought it was about tape recording conversations between nurses and management, suits....maybe even MD's or pts.

Hello LPNfutureRN!!
I use a tape recorder for every lecture. It is small in size, (like a checkbook) but it uses full size tapes...about 50mins each side. I would be soooo lost without it! I listen to the tapes on the way home from class. This works well because I am alone and it takes about an hour each way...It helps me a lot because it reinforces what I heard earlier and (thank goodness) if there is something that I missed or was not clear the first time, I can hear it all again.
There are several people in my class that use tapes......
If it works for you then great. Some people start out with this method and then realize it is not for them..
I listen to the tapes "most" of the time, but not always.
I also tape review material and listen to it, this helps me to memorize certain things. Hope that this works for you!!
Good luck with school!

Great thread, I am also thinking of using tapes. I taught myself German using the tape method. I listen to the tapes in the car, or while working on the pc. I love the tapemethod. Hope it works well with AP & Chem

Lisa, I think tapes would be excellent for AP and Chem lectures, try to sit close to the instructor if you can.

tape recorders aren't allowed in any of our nursing classes for confidentiality reasons.
i've had other pre-req courses that i used a recorder in (not very often though). i mostly highlight and then scribble in a few comments in the margins of the books.

we're allowed to record the lectures. that's why I bought a digital (tapeless) voice recorder (POGO RIPFLASH 128M - $150 @ amazon). It's capable of recording 8 hrs straight in 1 session. When I get home, I then transfer the audio files directly to my computer for playback. I even uploaded the whole lecture to the internet for my classmates to play the audio - online. The digital file is encoded in MP3 format. The recording quality is very good. Hope this helps...
