I'm scheduled to take the TEAS V on April 14th with the hopes of being admitted to my school's nursing program for the fall 2017 cohort. It's at a two year college, but they consider it competitive (about 300 applicants for 50 open spots). The nursing director I talked to (via one email asking about the application process) made it a point that I should take Anatomy and Physiology 1&2 before taking the TEAS because of the material. She basically made it seem like I would not be admitted into the program and fail because (in her words), those who take the TEAS before A&P rarely do well and quickly dismissed me. However, A&P is NOT a pre req for the nursing program at this school, there is the option to take it while taking nursing classes.
Here is where my frustration kicks in a bit.... for the past 5+ years, I have been a licensed veterinary nurse (mostly worked in emergency and critical care, I also run a wildlife rescue that deals with sick and injured animals). I have taken all other pre/co reqs, as well as upper level Biology and Chemistry courses; I wanted to switch to a career that pays better, is in demand, and allows me to care for others. I am comfortable with my knowledge of A&P thanks to my current job and education background and I am studying with the ATI and Princeton Review study guides. However, now I am SUPER paranoid that I will NOT do well on the TEAS without taking A&P after speaking with the program's director I really do not feel like waiting until next year to apply.
...has anyone else taken the TEAS before taking anatomy and physiology?? What aspects of A&P are mainly focused on on the TEAS?

Hello,
I took the TEAS during winter break and I would say that taking A&P prior to taking the TEAS would be extremely useful, but not necessary to get a good score. It was my first time taking the test as well and I got a 83% on it. I used the TEAS study manual from ATI and purchased the online practice tests as well. Most of the questions pertaining anatomy and physiology are pretty basic, nothing too in depth or complex. As long as you know the basics you should be fine!

TEAS V is no longer available are you sure its the V ? make sure you have the right material to study for the exam. its now TEAS VI and they are different tests. Good luck :)
The director of the nursing program referred to it as "V" and it is also listed as such on the nursing application. Maybe they do mean "VI", though:x3:
I'm guessing they do mean VI because ATI no longer provides the V it's now changed to VI and there are different contents. make sure you get the correct version of the study guide which is the 6th edition.

If you were taking the TEAS V, I would say yes just take it. However, it seems now (TEAS VI) the majority of the science section is A&P.
I think you should ask the program director/admissions office if you retake the TEAS multiple times do they take the higher score. If they do take the higher score, then I do not see why you couldn't just take it now. If they only take the first score/test of the TEAS then I would wait.

Based on the reviews I'm working on for the TEAS VI, I would not recommend taking it before not only A&P but some sort of biology class. The science portion isn't easy q's like "what system does the thymus belong to" - it's balancing chemical equations, knowing which hormones do what, knowing the anatomy of things like the kidney or a lymph node, the anatomy of a prokaryotic cell, DNA replication vs RNA replication, etc.
I haven't taken it yet, but for the practice tests I'm drawing a lot from Micro, Chemistry and both A&P classes.
Take some practice tests and see how you do and make the decision based on that.
Good luck!

You are almost certainly taking the TEAS VI - the V was retired in August. The new one, 75% of the science section is A&P, and most of it is somewhat advanced (not just basic stuff you already know). I strongly recommend taking A&P before the TEAS.
Thank you! I've taken Gen Bio 1 and 2, Genetics, Microbiology, Intro Chem, Gen Chem 1 and 2, Organic 1&2, Comparative Anatomy, Reproduction Biology, and Endocrinology...as well as CE courses for my vet nurse license (some included A&P topics)...do you think this makes a difference at all?
Do some practice tests online and see how it goes. You could very well do just fine with those classes under your belt.

What was your final outcome? Did you end up taking the exam without A&P?
