anyone know the specific regulations regarding taking pictures in the hospital... i know its illegal to take a picture of yourself and a patient without consent... but what if you are in a lead gown standing next to a c-arm, or you are placing an oxygen mask near your face "gesturing" that you are "taking" oxygen.... is it ok to take a picture of yourself doing something but not with or near a patient.... can your school get you in trouble or your work?
its my understanding that pictures are allowed as long as the patient is not being photographed.... anyone know where i can read specific policies on this?
thanks!

My advice would be to not play grab-butt in the hospital during clinical rotations and definitely don't take pictures of yourself playing grab-butt in the hospital.
We took group pics of ourselves in the conference room when we finished a clinical rotation. I would suggest you stick to that.

A group picture in the conference room with the clinical instructor's permission and participation, should be safe.

Your best bet is to check out your school's policy AND the hospital's policy. Lots of facilities are skittish these days after students and staff have made boneheaded moves and posted the evidence for all to see.
Your instructor is a good place to start. She probably knows the school policy and can find out the facility policy. It might help if you have a specific purpose in mind--recruiting new students, for example--to give some context to your request and suggest that any pictures you take will not be used for foolish purposes. If you just want to show family and friends, that's cool, too, but photographs should probably be posed in such a way that there is no identifying information about the hospital.

I would not take any pictures with uniform or gesturing anything because now a days you can get in trouble for any type of pictures during school. Just to be on the safe side.
hey thanks for the responses.... but what about pics taken before school and at work that may have been posted on facebook and maybe an angry ex-g friend may have gotten ahold of and sent to the nursing program anonymously.... can that be used against a student before school starts?

I agree with the person above it depends on what you were doing in those pictures or probably where..besides why would you want pictures like that?

why in the world would you want to do this? Seems like a waste of hospital supplies of you ask me. It also doesn't project a positive or professional image. If I was a pt and saw a student/nurse "pretending" they were on oxygen, and I was O2 dependent.. It would hurt my feelings and I would be furious. Just put yourself in someone's shoes who struggles to breathe all day.....
