Taking NCLEX for the 2nd time Aug. 14 and need a study buddy!

Published

i graduated this past may 09 and took boards june 24. i didn't pass and my job has agreed to work with me in hopes that i will stay with them. so, i'm working 8-5 monday thru friday and all i'm doing is studying until i retake boards august 14th!! i really need help! i have the saunders book and am going to get the 2010 kaplan review book this weekend, but i feel like i'm missing something important. my job has been so great in working with me and not only do i not want to fail for my own reasons but i don't want my work to think they wasted their time on me. i am a great nurse! i know that, but i don't know how to answer questions. i felt as though the nclex didn't reflect my knowledge and competency as a rn. any advice would be much appreciated!!

I saw your list of things to study. I'm doing the same thing. Right now i'm doing my weakest point which is OB..I've been answering questions at least 300 everyday with rationale. But no matter how hard i study i feel like i'm missing something.

Hope i won't get anxious again for the second time i will take the exam because last time i got so stress out. I had diarrhea for 2 days prior to taking the exam. I was a mess.

Again thank you..ijust reading your post i feel so motivated again to study.

300 a day is to many for the brain to remember... Kaplan recommend no more than 150 some other people say no more than 100 so you can retain the information:typing

Hello ktbeth! good noon..Here in Texas...i'm schedule 11am at hurst..I hope that i will pass it. It's getting very expensive especially i'm not working right now.

i'm in texas too! what city?

whew!! i couldn't handle 300 a day, for me the way i've broken up saunders is helping me teh best.. i read the brief content and then the 15 questions after each chapter is enough for me in a day!!

oh really!wow! maybe i'm doing it wrong then..i feel like i'm so behind so that's y i'm doing at least 300 items/day. I'm not doing hurst. I'm going to take my exam at Hurst, Texas.

Thank you for letting me know. I haven't done hurst nor Kaplan. I'm thinking about doing NCSBN because it's the cheapest one i can find and i heard a good feedback about it.

ujones00....thank you..

katie~ Thank so much for the breakdown of the items to review. I am now in the library about to start my review. I will try to follow the plan you have created! It's a big help!

So the plan is to read the Chapters/Units, do the questions at the end of the chapter and do the questions, right?

s0medayrN~ I too failed my exam and we are retaking it on the same day... Aug. 24th. I personally cannot wait to retake it but at the same time I want to make sure I pass it this time coz the last time I took it...anxiety took over and right then I knew I didn't pass. Well, it's nice to have everyone in here! I'm so glad I found these forums! :)

I'm here in Arlington. What city are u in? yeap! 300 i think is overwhelming! I'm not doing it for straight hours though. I take a break in between.

I guess i have to mellow it down to 150 items/day.

Katie, I don't have the current Saunders book but the study plan looks great. I would add that you try to do at least 150 questions a day, whether you use NCLEX3500, 4000, Kaplan, Drexel, NCBSN or whatever. Get used to practicing lots of questions builds your stamina so you won't fatigue on the exam if you get more than 75 questions. Also you want to look at all the rationals of the practice questions whether you got them right or wrong.

Yup thats her!

Yes, I know Monica very well! She took NCLEX on Monday. I don't know if she announced it, but I saw her name on the MBON as passing and I sent her an email about it. If she tells you she passed please act surprised as I don't want to ruin it.

Yes maam that the way i'm doing it. Read the chapter listed for the day then the questions behind it then the next chapter. Then once the whole book has been reviewed i will then do the comprehensive exam at the end to see what im weak in to review the last and final week!! i take mine a week before you do!! so i'll let you know if this way helped!! good luck in studying! keep me informed! we are a team now!!
