Taking the Hesi and Freaking out!!!!

Published

Hi All,

I am currently trying to get into nursing school and found the ideal school for me :) However they just told me yesterday that in order to get in the program I have to take the HESI....in TWO WEEKS!! I am freaking out and really in need of some extra study guides and helpful suggestions to help me pass this the first time around. Its very competitive and they only take the top 30 scorers into the program. Any material and suggestions that you all have would be so greatly appreciated!! Thanx in advance!!

Ashley

theres a GREAT site that I learned my RN on and did it frontwards and bckwards until i got it. Practice! It works and you will breeze through that test!

Sweet I am checking out this site also. I think I am going to do ok. How do u figure out the least from greatest? I still am struggling with that one a little. I do have to say this though, I failed every practice test I took before I studied the math and now I have re taken them and only missed 2 and those were algebra ?'s. Thank God we don't have any of that on there...:flwrhrts:

Thanks so much I am on it now and I can see already that its not as hard as I thought it was! There are only a few that you actually have to memorize and then you are on your way!!

I've got you all beat age-wise...I am 51. But I am also living proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Thanks for all the support!

As for flunking the HESI, it is very easy to do. There were quite a few people in my exam who walked out with horrible looks on their faces, and some I overheard on the phone as they were walking out.

Just study, study, study. And don't rely on the HESI preparation book, it totally sucked.

Well I am hoping I am not one of those people! I have been studying daily and practicing from several practice tests that I got out of study guides from different people on this site. I figure if I am able to do those and score well then I should score well on the HESI! I do have a plan in place though. I know that I do really well with reading, grammer, and vocab so I am going to do those first and try to score in the high 90's that way if I have any problems when it comes to science I do have those grades to help save me. Hopefully I don't need them though because I will do well on all the sections. They told uis in our session if we haven't taken A&P to not even take the test. I believe in beating the odds though so I am going to go in there and Ace that exam!

I must say that I thought I bombed too, so dont be too surprised if those people passed. The book was a starting place for me to get a feel of what they were looking for-but online is where I was able to sharpen my skillz and get more information. For ex., the math section in the study book didnt talk about the history of decimal/roman numeral....various numbering systems-but had the nerve to ask questions on the history. There was alot of that in the book-so I'd do a search and print out more info(especially how to convert C to F degrees)

well, there was nothing to prepare that for us in the 'study guide' so i held my breath and figured out the math. for ex

.66 .07 .06 .1

I subtracted each number from the other

.66-.07

.66-.06

.66-.1

if the answer was neg., then i went to the next. Once i could subract ALL the nos given without a neg- I knew it was the largest.

For fractions, I converted to dec and did the same thing.

We got our results right then, so I am pretty sure they didn't pass. One girl told me she didn't. I felt so badly for her.

I totally agree about the HESI book, I got most of my practice online.

So I am testing on Wednesday and still am worried that I haven't retained enough information:confused: soooooo nervous!!

How are you doing on the practice tests?

You are going to do fine. It is in there! : ) I would suggest just reviewing and doing practice tests today. Tues all I would do is find a way to relax, maybe do a little breathing (picturing yourself doing well on the test). I typically try to avoid studying up until a test. You need some relaxation so you do not stress out. If there are formulas that you need to remember I would look them over right before I go in (but I would study at that point). Sometimes there is something about studying last minute that makes your mind think that you do not know the info and that you are cramming. This will send you into panick mode.

You know the info, it is all there, just relax, and kick some butt!!! You are going to do great! : )

I have been doing okay on the practice tests. Not nearly as well as I would like to (on the science sections). I have mastered the other sections and am kinda hoping that I can get 90-100 on the reading, grammer, and vocab. That way if I don't do as well on the other sections it will balance out. I have been studying the flash cards that I made constantly but I'm frustrated because for some reason I can say the name when I hear the definition but I cannot give the definition when I hear the name. Weird ehhh?? I am just going to continue testing today and hope that it gets better. I have tests not only from the HESI study guide but from other study guides that have been sent to me so I hope that helps!

MsAshley,

I feel ur pain. I am going on Friday to take the math portion and the writing portion. Apparently at my school there is a problem with people failing the vocab and are disputing it as not a fair test and racially biased----DRAMA!!!! So I can not take this part now because it is under review. Ugggghhh.. GOOD LUCK ON WEDS and let us know how u did. I still am having issues with Roman Numerals and some of the conversions... All I can do is try. I need a 75% but I know I can do better.. yi yi the stress:banghead:
