Taking the Hesi and Freaking out!!!!

Published

Hi All,

I am currently trying to get into nursing school and found the ideal school for me :) However they just told me yesterday that in order to get in the program I have to take the HESI....in TWO WEEKS!! I am freaking out and really in need of some extra study guides and helpful suggestions to help me pass this the first time around. Its very competitive and they only take the top 30 scorers into the program. Any material and suggestions that you all have would be so greatly appreciated!! Thanx in advance!!

Your school should have a study guide that you can purchase.

Don't freak out! It's not that bad, I took it a couple of months ago. I agree with the above post, see if your school has a study guide. It helped me a lot!

I do have a study guide that was given to me by my school. We are using the evolve HESI study guide. I am just still worried about the fact that I have never taken AP and I have to do that section of the test. Do you know any details of how the test is??

Well my school only required the reading, vocab, and math portion :( sorry. But out of those I can tell you to def study the charts/conversions on the math part. That was the same study guide I had. Sorry I cant help anymore.

Thats okay thanx for the help you could provide!! I will keep studying hard and hopefully it'll all pay off on the 20th!!

Wow, my school does not require the HESI to get in but after you are accepted you have to take it...However we were told that it is not a test..and that it was impossible to fail it...since we are only doing the English and basic math... But there is a thread on some websites for the Hesi...

Okay, so don't freak out! :) The math is very basic, so review quickly for that (it's mainly proportions and conversions and fractions). The reading comprehension is not too bad, you can find all the answers within the passage. The vocabulary is pretty basic, just watch for words that sound the same because they will try to trick you! And if you get the study guide, a lot of words from that are used on the test. The A&P section was a lot more basic than I thought it was going to be. It covered very broad topics.

Thanks for responding!! I am studying for the exam right now. I just took the grammer and vocab test from the study guide and did okay. Not as great as I thought I would though. Think this is mainly because I second guessed myself several times and changed the right answer to the wrong one. I mostly have been studying the AP portion because I haven't taken an AP class yet. I am trying to memorize as much as I can. Is there one thing I need to be sure to focus on? I will brush up on the math because its been about a year since I've taken any math courses jus to be sure. I am trying not to worry as much because people have said its not that bad its just the pressure!! I think that I need at least an 85 to guarantee myself a spot but I would prefer 90's :)

Definitely know anatomical position terms, such as distal, proximal, anterior, posterior, etc. Then, know the basics for each body system and common disorders found in each. It is also helpful to review the hormones of the endocrine system (where they come from, their target, and what they do).

Here are a couple of sites that helped me a lot!

And...it is spelled incorrectly but that is the website

caringforyou.net/Hesi Study Guide.pdf

I took the math tests every day...looked up all the chemistry and anatomy study points.

Took the HESI yesterday -- got a 90 overall! I am so relieved. I have been dreading this for months. Anyway, study hard and best of luck.

Thanx so much I am going to look these up today! So which part is spellled wrong jus so I know??
