any other certified Med surg RN's out there? How was the exam? Any advice on how best to prepare this last week?
I am studying to be certified in Med surg..Was the exam difficult? What materials did you use to review? Thanks!
There are 2 different med surg exams. I took the one offered by the ANCC. I bought a med surg study guide off Amazon that was helpful. My test was very heavy on knowing the disease processes, especially cardiac and respiratory.
And I would not say that it wasn't hard, but there were many questions that you would only be able to answer if you spent time at bedside and no book could prepare you for. I guess that's why they required 2 years experience to qualify.

I took the med/surg test by AMSN. I wouldn't say it was easy. In fact there was stuff on there that I didn't know even after 20 some years of med/surg nursing. However, having experience was helpful. That's where I pulled the vast majority of my information from.
wannab1, We were told to get the books by AMSN for studying. They really were helpful. The tests have some really simple and some really oddball questions. Five of us at work took the test. One person had 6 ABG questions, while I had none. Mine was huge on endrocrine, neuro and ortho. Another said her test was a ton of respiratory. It is a crap shoot. They don't come out and ask simple questions. These really do test the critical thinking skills. When you get the AMSN books, spend the extra money and get the test book as well. There are a 150 questions, I believe that are set up much like the test.

Same here! Mine must have been the same as yours. A friend had one with a ton of abg.
The book with a 150 questions is a must. The questions resemble the test.
I had some really, really strange questions!! Two on penile implants!
Which book has the 150 questions? Does anyone have the Isbn? The AMSN "practice questions" are on back order until December which will be too late for me but the description says 50 practice questions, not 150. Is there another book I should be looking for? Any practice questions in the Core Curriculum?
