Take 7 classes in one semester to make deadline!?!

Published

Can I take all of the following classes in one semester and make great grades in order to make nursing school deadline in September?

Eng 101

Math 101

A&P

Dev. Pysch

Microbiology

Psych.

Human Nutrition

Given that:

I have been in college before

I have no other responsibilities

I am single, no job, no kids, no pets, can opt out for having a life for the summer and have money saved up for living expenses

I have a great drive and focus

Is that crazy? Is it possible to make great grades? Thanks for any input.

I would take A&P and Micro in separate semesters if at all possible.

My suggestion:

Semester 1 - Math 101, English 101, Psych., A&P

Semester 2 - Nutrition, Micro, Dev. Psych.

or, you can reverse the sciences. better yet, talk to a counselor at your school. this is what they're there for :-)!!!

I presume your A&P and your microbiology classes include labs. A lab is in itself a class. At my university, your list of seven classes would really be nine. Labs are time-consuming -- at least three hours of classtime plus three hours of homework a week.

I'm in nearly the same set of circumstances that you are -- prior degree, married, saved up enough money to walk away from a great pay check and live off my savings for two years without working. Now I'm on an accelerated schedule, and I've got to say that I'm just plain tired. My only significant vacation time is at the end of August and at Christmas. Can I get it all done? Yes. Is it enjoyable? Not always. Sometimes my brain just needs a rest.

I can appreciate a deadline, though. Have you considered taking compressed courses during vacation periods? That might help you stay on your time line.

Negative...I PROMISE you that schedule will not only kill you, it will WRECK your GPA.

I also would be very shocked if the college would allow you to sign up for it.

This summer I am taking 6 classes in order to start nursing school in the fall. I am taking 3 classes right now and 3 classes in the next session. I am having a hard time keeping up and so far the due dates of assignments for all of my classes land on the same day! I have at least 3 exams a week plus presentations, papers, quizzes, and homework. I have zero free time. If you can wait, I would spread out your workload! :uhoh21:

First I will tell you that most places consider 12 credit hours full time, but will allow 18. Here you have 23 credit hours, and no one will let you sign up for this many hours. You also generally have to take intro psych prior to Dev pysch. English, both psych's, and nutrition are pretty easy. Math should be pretty easy if your a math person, but micro, and A&P are both very very hard. A & P is 3 hours of class time a week, and if I remember right 3 hours of lab. Micro was 3 hours of class time, plus lab twice a week for 2 hours each time. In addition, both of them require you to actually sit down, study, memorize, and read each and every day for at least a couple hours for each one. I wouldn't recommend you take the two of them together unless you can devote 100%, and are a straight A student. There's no way I would every take both of those classes plus a full load of other courses too. Even if you were somehow able to pull it off you would fail so badly it wouldnt be worth it. Slow down, and you will be fine.

My suggestion:

Semester 1 - Math 101, English 101, Psych., A&P

Semester 2 - Nutrition, Micro, Dev. Psych.

Definitely not a good idea! Even if you managed to complete these classes, it's highly unlikely that your GPA would be high enough to get you into the program.

Specializes in ob/gyn med /surg.

wow thats alot of classes.. good luck and i am sure you will do well

Yeah, split up the psychs and the hard sciences. Nutrition will be easier if you've already had A&P, since you'll know how the digestive system works. ACTnow's schedule sounds great! I really wouldn't try to take that much, even if the school did let you - you saw the previous poster's "positive" experience with that kind of workload: only one D. You generally can't get into NS with a D anywhere in your prereqs. Do it in 2 semesters, and you'll do fantastic.

If i was you I would call different schools and see if they offer any clep test thats seems like that would be the best route to take. You would still get the credit just not the grade. It will save a lot of time for those easir classes like eng, pshy, and math, maybe nutrition. It will allow you to spend more time on ap, micro.

what is the hurry, will you lose your place in school? I would not advise taking 3 sciences in 1 semester. I dont want to sound discouraging but, I doubt your school would allow you to cram that much in anyway. Take your time to learn and absorb it, you will be a better nurse for taking your time to learn.

Trust me , its not worth cramming 10 lbs of crap into a 2 lb bag.

Good luck !
