Swine flu raises fear of pandemic - Adults and Children

Nurses COVID

it seems though, that most of those outside of mexico who now have this flu are those with access to health care, doctor's and medicine. this really hasn't spread to the general population yet, or reached places that have poorer living conditions and limited access to doctor's, nurses and flu medications. wouldn't that be when we would see more deaths?

This is from a physician in Texas who sent a private email to friends and family. More info. on this and verification that he is a practicing family medicine physician is available at the following link:

Snopes.com states that this Dr. says "his" emails circulating have been changed and adapted to fit different individual's propoganda. This is clearly outdated, as well, as that Texas boy has since died, and Obama has declared no emergency of any kind.

I still think all of this is bulls**t perpetuated by the media and our attraction to drama, and it already looks to be dwindling away. I feel bad for all of those who have lost a loved one to the swine flu, but come on people...36,000 people every year die in the US alone, from the flu or flu related complications. This stuff is nothing new!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I deleted my post because after I posted it, because I checked further and read on the Dr.'s blog his statement that the circulating email was edited.

This link to a San Antonio newspaper supposedly shows a copy of the original email that was sent out by a local ED Medical Director to his family, friends and patients.

I do not want to be a scaremonger, but I think that it is important to share news as we get it.

People needs to really stop panicking, swine flu is just a FLU and thousand of people get the FLU every year, any flu is dangerous regardless of the source and the only people that should be considered high-risk are infants as well as people over 65 as well as immune compromised people. This is not the epidemic of cholera, malaria or chicken pox, this is a FLU,so lets just live it as it is.

I hope that you are right, but the news that two students from one school in Washington state are in intensive care from suspected flu does not look like the usual flu pattern.

The people who are getting sick from this flu tend to be outside of the norm for regular flu-they are older childen or young/middle age adults.

A pandemic of flu can be disruptive both economically and socially (besides the obvious global health issues). While it doesn't behoove anyone to panic, it important to take these threats seriously, and to prepare ourselves properly for the possibilty. Perhaps this may not be it. There will, however, be one again. That's a fact. And it's one that shouldn't be taken too lightly.

No I havent read all the pages of this thread (too much time!) however I see people begining to panic for no obvious reason and it is getting frustrating when healthcare professionals give in to propaganda.

Some news cannot be confirmed 100% as well as some come from unchecked sources. We dont know the situations of those two students (their health status, comorbidities etc).We also cannot confirm the deaths in Mexico, news can tell us laypeople anything, even that Osama Bin laden send another threat!:)
