Say what you will about hospital nursing---and we all have!---there are times when all the hard work, blood, sweat & tears pay off and management actually REWARDS you for doing a good job. I just got handed the sweetest deal of my career: a four-day-a-week schedule, 11AM to 7PM, with NO weekends and a day off right in the middle of the week! WOOOOHOOOOO!!
It's perfect .......I don't have to get up at the crack of dawn, I'll be home in the evenings, and I work the same days every week (my family never could figure out my rotating schedule). I also won't have to worry about being called off all the time, because those are our peak activity hours and I'll be doing admissions and post-ops most of the time---believe me, I will be needed! I'll be busier than a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest, but that makes the time go fast, and I've NEVER minded doing admissions if I don't already have a full team of patients. It's actually an entirely new position......the hospital has never done this before.......and the fact that they think enough of my abilities to offer me the opportunity doesn't hurt my feelings any.
And that schedule.........The only downside is, I'll lose my $1.40 evening shift differential for the first four hours (the differential kicks in at 3PM). But I figure I'll make up for it by NOT getting called off so much, and who can complain about having every weekend off? Plus a day off right in the middle of the week? Never working more than two days in a row? And being able to have a life both before AND after work?
I don't care that this change is intended more to benefit the organization than myself.......TPTB are so thrilled to have me in this position that I'm coming out smelling like a rose. YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
waa hoo you you Sounds like a great deal. Enjoy those weekends off, maybe even smell a rose or two. YOU DESERVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!ya hard workin woman!!!!!!!!!!
