Not all schools prepare for the nclex and also nclex is not in no way shape or form how you are going to be a nurse. I know smart and good nurses that have failed this exam. Some pass and don't know a thing. Also it a money maker for the states the application is @100.00 a pop and the test $200.00 times that by 2 failures and they have 600.00 and you nothing.

It is not a money maker for any state in most cases, and not all charge $100 to sit for the exam. You forget about the staff that they have to pay to process your application, whether a retake or not. Many of the BONs are actually subsidized by the state to meet their expenses. There is also much more that goes into running a BON than handling paperwork from an applicant.

The student also has to take some responsibility for selecting a school that has high passing standards for the exam as well. It is also easy to know the type of material to prepare for the exam, so it is not all up to the school to take responsibility if one did not pass the exam.

Next issue is for those that are in a hurry to retest, but have not prepared properly before doing so.

The exam costs in the US are also some of the cheapest in the world for countries that do require an exam. Look at the license fees for Canada that need to be paid each and every year to the tune of about $500 as well as the fees for their exam on top of that.

They would be thrilled to pay the fees that are charged in the US.

And they have only three tries for their exam. iI they do not pass in within the three attempts, they have to attend school all over again. No other chances are given to them. And if a foreign nurse, they lose their visa and have to leave the country as well, and the exam can only be written in Canada.

Can't answer for myself, but 4 of my classmates/friends were stopped @ 75 questions, and they all passed. As for their particular content, I'm not sure, but one of them told me that she had a lot of pharmacology questions.

Good luck :wink2:

Hi There,

Well here is my experience I took the NCLEX test 2 times the first I stopped at 132 questions and I had mostly knowledge questions and TONS of math. I took it right away after graduating hardly prepared and went in with a wing and prayer. The SECOND time I tested I studied my REAR end off EVERY night for 85 days. I did Suzzannes plan and my nursing instructor did relaxation techniques with me. I went in the second time scared but well prepared I got 87 questions mostly priority and infection control, 2 SATA's, NO math and only about 10-12 meds which I had NEVER heard of any of them but 1. I found out 24 hours later that I PASSED WHA WHO:yeah:

I really think that if you follow Suzzannes advice STAY CALM and RELAXED you will do fine. What I did was go in that room put the ear plugs in sat down closed my eyes cleared my mind and took a deep cleansing breath said a prayer and went for it. Everytime my mind wondered I closed my mind took a deep breath and refocused on the exam.:clown: Good luck I will be looking for a posting that you are an RN you CAN do it.

I took it on Jan 13 (graduated Dec. 10) and got 75 questions - 3 SATA, 1 math. It took me 52 minutes - 2 days later, I passed! So far everyone in my class that has taken it has had 75 questions, except 1 (he had 80) and all have passed.

BTW it took me close to an hour and a half to do the 87 questions.

I took mine Jan 27 (no results yet). I was cut off at 75 questions and took a little over 90 minutes. I had 9-10 SATA, no med/calc questions, random disease process q's, about 10 meds (I only recognized 3 of them), and lots of psychosocial (not sure if thats bad) and prioritization.

I took the NCLEX-RN on Jan. 26th. I had no math, lots of prioritization/delegation, medications, and teaching. I also had some disease process questions. It cut off at 75q's. I found out on the Jan. 28th that I passed!
