SUNY Downstate ABSN 2020-2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone,

I've started this thread so we can discuss and share our experiences applying to SUNY's ABSN program for 2020. This is my second time applying. I waited till the very last day of the deadline to submit my application last year (I knowww) since I had taken the TEAS and had just gotten the results. However, I've already submitted my application for the upcoming year and hope to get a call for an interview. Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Sidenote: I really like the upgrade they did to the online application. So much more user-friendly.

My status is "File forwarded to program for review." Does anyone else have any other statuses?

Mine says screening in progress

Hey. Mine also says screening in progress in the status section, however the latest email I received a while back (nearly a month ago) said my application was forwarded to the program for review. Do they mean the same or am I still in the screening phase? The email before the one mentioned above stated that my application was completed (I assume this means that "screening" is done? but my status is still stuck on screening in progress).

So, I just got the email about it being forwarded to the program a couple days ago, and that's when my status changed. Maybe yours is being reviewed by the program now? Maybe we can't really infer anything from the statuses.

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering if your application was submitted with everything completed at once or did you still have requirements/supplemental documents to fulfill/send in after submitting?

Hello there! Congrats to you all for taking another BIG step while applying to Downstate. I'm currently in the program and thought I could put my two cents in to hopefully relieve some angst.

Does submitting your app until last minute really bring down your chances of being accepted? Nervous because I haven’t submitted mine yet.

It looks like it's first-come first serve, but I am a living and breathing example that you still can get in. I applied two days before the deadline, had a painfully late interview in February where my interview group was told that, if accepted, we will be most likely placed on the waiting list which promptly happened. On the other hand, the moment I accepted being placed on the list, I got my actual acceptance letter the same day so.... it is possible.

You’re absolutely right that things might be different this application round because of the new web application system and the delayed start. But earlier submission is still encouraged on their website.

College of Nursing is in the process onboarding of a new director of the accelerated program. She has started last month, which may have contributed to the delay.

Hey everyone -

Does anybody know if SUNY combines TEAS scores? For example, if you take the exam twice, will they take your highest score from each section?

I've also emailed to double check about how to upload the second scores (I submitted my application with my first scores), but if anyone has already done this I would appreciate the info!

thanks!

At the info session I went to, they said that they would only take your most recent test score.

Hey all,

Is anyone applying to both ABSN and MDE programs, and if so, what are you doing about FAFSA? It’s not designed to fill out profiles for both masters and bachelors programs at the same time, so I’m a little nervous about how to make sure I get the right amount of $$ (since masters programs don’t really get financial aid).

I just submitted my app today! Worried about the chances with rolling admissions, but didn't have time to work on it until last weekend!

My stats:

TEAs are approx 89 reading, 94 Math, 83 Science, 100 English, 90 overall.

Science pre-reqs 4.0; Cum pre-reqs 3.8.

Minimal volunteer experience (multiple soup kitchens and ONCE in a hospital).

Also, I am finishing up two pre-reqs this semester (Micro and statistics) and two in the spring (Anthro and Socio). And one of my recommendations hasn't been submitted yet :/.

Like someone else mentioned, as of now I am ONLY applying to SUNY Downstate. It's just my only choice location-wise, price, and reputation. If I don't get in, I would rather wait a year and apply again with more volunteer exp and an earlier submitted app.

Good luck to everyone!

Just got an email from them saying my application is on hold until they get my Fall A+P II and Microbiology grades. I hope my teachers can get them in before January... ? I also need to take the CLEP dev psych and math next semester. Anyone else get an email like this one?

Hi Everyone !

I’m still missing the math and statistics prerequisites. I registered for Algebra with CLEP but they do not provide you with an option to select a date in advance. I wanted to show proof that I registered with the date. Any suggestions?

it seems as though you cannot register for DSST in advance at all. So I can’t even show proof of registration.
