SUNY Downstate ABSN 2020-2021

Hi everyone,

I've started this thread so we can discuss and share our experiences applying to SUNY's ABSN program for 2020. This is my second time applying. I waited till the very last day of the deadline to submit my application last year (I knowww) since I had taken the TEAS and had just gotten the results. However, I've already submitted my application for the upcoming year and hope to get a call for an interview. Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Sidenote: I really like the upgrade they did to the online application. So much more user-friendly.

Does anyone know if SUNY Downstate accepts Portage Learning classes?? I had an advisor in another program suggest taking prereqs through Portage and it looks like a great way to finish prereqs on your own schedule.

I just received an email from them saying my application has been forwarded to the program for review. I am expecting another email like the one that you got, because I am still taking microbiology and developmental psychology this semester (and anthropology and sociology next semester). I am taking these at Cuny schools, and their final grades are due December 27 or so. So I’ll be submitting them just under the wire.

Yah I got my email about the app being on hold until grades. The due date is dec 27th which is when cuny grades are due lol so, we’ll see. I figure I’ll wait until finals week to see if my professors get grades in early and if any are lingering will email admissions.

I noticed that a few hours ago. I wonder why they pushed it back and what it means for the possibility of December interview dates. Has anyone spoken with SUNY Downstate about this change?

Yeah, super interesting. Too bad for those that maxed out of their ATI TEAS attempts (like me).

I haven't spoken with them but I'd be interested to hear what they say about it if anyone does call / email them!

It looks like it's first-come first serve, but I am a living and breathing example that you still can get in. I applied two days before the deadline, had a painfully late interview in February where my interview group was told that, if accepted, we will be most likely placed on the waiting list which promptly happened. On the other hand, the moment I accepted being placed on the list, I got my actual acceptance letter the same day so.... it is possible.

College of Nursing is in the process onboarding of a new director of the accelerated program. She has started last month, which may have contributed to the delay.

Thanks so much for all this info, @machamurse! This is definitely helpful/reassuring info. Would you be willing to share a little bit about the program? How have you liked it so far? Biggest pros/cons?

@machamurse are you sure that it's first come first serve? I was told that it wasn't and now feel a bit nervous because I submitted my application the week before the deadline.

Did anyone get an email to interview? I just got one from Elizabeth Clause indicating that they're conducting interviews this Thursday (12/5) and to email them back with a time because they don't have my phone number.

The email looked a little strange. I'm wondering if anyone received phone calls instead?

Hi,

I just got a phone call almost an hour ago for an interview this Thursday! She said she would send me an email confirmation but I haven't gotten it yet. Soooo excited!
