I will be starting my summer at the NASN Annual Conference: http://www.nasn.org/Default.aspx?tabid=109

It is on Magnificent Mile in Chicago - my home town, and Chicago in the summer is blissful!! Steps to Navy Pier, the beach, shopping, museums, Millenium Park, the dining!

The Cubs or White Sox are a short El ride away! Great chance to bring your highschooler along to do campus visits to University of Illinois-Chicago, Northwestern, University fo Chicago, De Paul, Loyola, Rush University, and tons of other schools.

Some highlights:

A book club session is offered: Book: There Are No Children Here

A half day pre-Con by Children's Memorial on Project School care - medically fragile kids in schools

Sessions on Leadership, Cyberbullying, Immunizations, Food Allergies, Diabetes, Concussions, Emergency care Plans, IDEA, Dealing with the Media..... too much to list.

Every week on the National Association of School Nurses home page, in the upper right hand corner, there is a Quick Poll for school nurses to keep NASN informed of what is going on in schools.

This week's Quick Poll asks: Are planning to work this summer?

Please go to NASN home page to participate. http://www.nasn.org

You will be surprised how fast the summer flies by...at first it appears as though you have all this time on your hands, but in the blink of an eye...time to go back to school! Enjoy it while it lasts...every single second of it!

I will be spending the summer with my darling 16 month old daughter (well, she'll be 18 months old in June...), I have a couple of inservices to go to for school, but other than that, we will be cleaning house and relaxing! I hope to get lots of organizing done at my house this summer. My mom is over the Before and After School Program at one of the elementary schools in our area, so we will be tagging along for field trips for free! (the zoo, an underground cave, a splash pad park, etc)...and then they go swimming two days a week, so we may tag along for one of those days. I'm pondering doing swimming lessons for her....Hoping for a relaxing summer!

Well, after my first year of school nursing I took my family on a cross-country tour of the U.S. in a 19-foot camper.:jester: Believe me, we got to know each other VEEEERRRY well. But we had a blast, the best vacation EVAH. This summer will be subdued--I''m having my rt foot reconstructed in early June so that pretty much takes care of summer. :o We are going to go camping for a few days prior to the surgery and we're going to attempt a camping trip in mid-July if i'm able to get around okay. I'll be sitting on the couch a lot, I think.:uhoh3:

Do you have children? Even if you don't, you could consider camp nursing as a summer job. I've been a school nurse for 6 years and a camp nurse for 4. I take my 2 girls as campers and I am the head nurse at an all-girls camp. It's an incredible experience for the 3 of us and we count the days until we can go back to camp!

Specializes in Med-Surg, School Nurse.

Even if you don't want to do a residential camp, local Boy Scout and Girl Scout day camps have contacted me in the past to volunteer as their first aid person.

thats a fantastic idea..................... where to look for such a job?

My husband is from Guatemala, you will love it there. That is really the best way to learn the language!!

NASN's Quick Poll this week is about whether or not nurses have paid summer hours to tie up loose ends and prepare for next year:

How many paid summer days without students in attendance do you work to tie up loose ends at the end of the year and/ or prepare before school starts?

Go to NASN home page, uppper right hand conrner to respond: http://www.nasn.org
