Suicide by antibotics ?

I had a 23 year pt who tried to commit suicide by ordering fish antibotics and taking 500 cipro and cephalosporins... I have never heard of this before , what is this new fascination with fish antibotics ? And he was very ill when he was in our ICU from all these antibotics... But he was upgraded and now in med surg As a legal patient for a psych hospital... Can antibotics kill you ? I have never heard of this type of trying to kill yourself and what is the deal with fish antibotics? Thank you in advance for your input ! I have to admit I'm stumped !

Lol I was thinking how did you do this , why and fish antibotics? For fish are they even antibotics? Well I guess they are ... I think he will never fully recover from this .. What's so bad in life you have to overdose on fish pills? Sad

I confess I've taken horse antibiotics for bronchitis and UTIs. They aren't terribly difficult to obtain. Fish is a new one. I agree it sounds serious, but surely there are easier ways than taking 500 pills...

I thought fish antibotics? Really ? My fish got sick I dumped them in the toliet , I'd never give them antibotics ... That's cray cray

lol., Most of mine were dead before I realized they needed antibiotics. Maybe that's why I gave the hobby up. Had much better luck with hamsters.

It's very easy to get any medication online. There are some Canadian pharmacies online that will send prescription medications for a low price even without a doctor's prescription.

I must say, I am impressed with the research he did. If only he could apply that kind of focus to getting help. Time better spent. Hopefully he will get the help he needs

Yeah he was pretty sick .. In report I was shocked .. Fish antibotics?? Sayyyyy whattttt? How do the fish swallow them?

You can buy them on ebay. Interesting. I thought you needed a prescription for these types of drugs but I guess they figure sick fishes don't do vets.

From what I can see you don't need a script for fish antibiotics when you buy them on ebay.

Many antibiotics are available from feed stores for livestock and....fish. It's why we are seeing such high numbers of antibiotic resistance.

" Preppers" [the folks who prepare for end of the world type scenarios] often talk of the fish antibiotic deal. I saw an episode regarding the matter on NatGeo. Basically, If you can't get your family doctor to give you a stock pile of antibiotics for the impending zombie apocalypse, you can look for USP grade fish antibiotics at your local pet food/fish store and with the correct knowledge of dosing could get by with them--at you own risk of course ;)

As far as using them to commit suicide.....thats a new one for me.

If you get into marines, some of those fish are hundreds of dollars. :)

Pan culture them. :laugh: No really, lots of fish infections cause visible signs--bloating, white salty growths, white fuzzy growths, body sores, etc.
