Big hug Heather!! I know the feeling, seems to happen in groups on our unit too, makes everyone depressed. Just remember thats part of our job; seeing new lives as well as the end of lives no matter how short they were.
I worked the ER this weekend and it was "3 up-3 down" too. And after the last code was over a relative of a pt waiting to go upstairs complained that they hadn't gone up yet. I explained about the emergency, the doc was tied up, sorry about the delay, etc. She said "but everytime we come here there's a delay" and bright and cheery me said "well it's become a tradition then" and walked out. So I'm waiting to see if they complain....

I'm loving that! I always worry about what to say when it's obvious to everyone in the waiting room that we have been scrambling. People can be so rude! I do have a temper (orginal redhead here myself) and when I am shifted between OB and ER in our small hospital, I get a little uptight sometimes. And other words of wisdom? Could use some, not so bad, comebacks for these folks!
sorry to hear about the weekend. i feel terrible for you and it's so sad for those poor moms who thought they would have a baby for christmas. i remember one christmas eve as a tech, i worked and two 40-something men coded and died w/in 2 hrs. of each other. it's been like 16 or 17 years ago and it still makes me cry to think about it. sad things seem twice as sad during the holidays.
Oh, Heather how sad. I could never do ob-gyn. Yeah, I know there are more positive outcomes than negative, but the negatives would really get me down....
To the mother of the baby with red hair: What a hag!! Get a life, for pete's sake. At least your kid is healthy and breathing...I bet any of those other Mommies would be thrilled to have a healthy child with any color hair!!
My middle son has red hair! I may be a little prejudice, but I love his hair. People always are commenting on it!! When he was little people would ask him where he got his red hair from and his reply was "from Jesus."
I'm sorry to hear about your weekend. I think it's time to go work a couple of shifts in the nursery and look at all of the healthy newborns sneak a few baby hugs from these little miracles. Extra hugs for the redheads.
Heather sorry to hear about your weekend. Just one loss is hard but three in one weekend is hard. They usually come in 3's so maybe your unit is done for awhile.

So sorry to hear about such a sad weekend. Mine was also pretty awful...no babies....adults but still hard.
