Studying for nclex rn 2010 with saunders only?

Published

Hello everyone! I was just wondering if studying from saunders (book and cd) is a good plan to follow. I know that the test plan has changed and was curious if there was a better book to be studying from. I dont have the money for kaplan, but i did read the book and i feel like it has helped. Any advice from people who have recently taken the exam would be great!

Several people have posted that they were successful only using Saunders. Would also suggest you get the prioritization book by LaCharity and the Kaplan review book for test strategies as a minimum.

i forgot to mention i fifnished the prioritization book already! those questions arent easy! lol

saunders is a really good tool to study for content but not for strategies how to answer NCLEX-like questions. I also used La Charity and Kaplan Qbanks/Question Trainers to strengthen my knowledge on critical thinking -which is really being tested on NCLEX.:)

I used Saunder's 4th ed. and PDA by LaCharity.

I think when you know the content, you can answer the question even if needs a critical thinking.By knowing the content from Saunder's through practicing the questions on CD, and practicing the Prioritization Book, even if it is

really hard how to prioritize, this will brush up our prioritization strategy and you will be okay for the test.Just remember always the ABC in prioritization, learn the mnemonics in infection control, read the question properly and decide the best answer.

Good Luck!

thank you so much! i have currently done 1600 questions, between saunders, pda, and the new davis book. I want to hit 4000 before my exam. you guys are an inspiration!

Hello, Just curious...does anyone know if their is a PDA(Palm) or ebook version of the book on Prioritization by La Charity? Thanks!

Did you take the test yet? I used Saunders CD and ATI books only. I took the test today. It shut off at 75. But, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I felt prepared after using Saunders and ATI books. If you do your practice tests and review your content, you will do just fine.

Saunders for Content. Saunders type question are very rare in NCLEX.

Kaplan for Questions which best reflect NCLEX style and difficulty.

Saunders is GOOD for content. You'd do BETTER with Kaplan + Saunders.

Good luck.

I recommend the Davis Q&A NCLEX Review book and they also have study flashcards with practice questions with rationales made by Davis as well. So far, when I've gone into Borders and/or Barnes & Noble, Davis has been the only publisher that I've seen with the new 2010 Test plan. The test plan has only been official since April, so I'm thinking that may be why there isn't a lot to choose from. I highly suggest getting those two things to supplement the Saunders NCLEX Review because I believe it prepares your mind to think the way it should when test taking.

I attached the link from Amazon.com for the Davis Book. I picked up the flash cards at a Borders bookstore.
