I passed NCLEX last May, but until now got no job as RN. I have no experience, since I graduated 2005,and it has been 5 years that I understand that I need a refresher course, in applying as an RN.I saw vacancies of CNA jobs in hospital,and I am thinking of applying just to start working and have some experience. Is my plan acceptable to hospital recruiters? I don't mind putting aside my being an RN for awhile as I understand I needed to start working and have my foot for experience. I have a difficult time,looking around for jobs as it always require a year of experience in every posted positions. I hope to hear any ideas from human resource and recruiters here.Any inputs will be much appreciated, and thanks for reading my post.

butching15, There's a lot of practice calculations in the Saunder's CD,on the study portion. I tried to answer 50 to 100/day whenever I have time.

I practiced answering the questions twice, and the case studies too! That was helpful in brushing up my critical thinking on prioritization which has a big part in my exam. The first time I was answering it, my scores are way very low, and the second time it has progress.Then after my exam, I realized,this book helped me a lot!I was only using Saunder's 4th ed and LaCharity.

Hi cebuana_nurse, Since you're working in the nursing home,did you find it working safe than working in the hospital? I still don't know the difference too of this two facilities.Which is good to apply, whether in hospital or in a nursing home.I too don't have any work experience, and in applying, I m considering which place to go wherein we're safe being an inexperience RN.I am talking about safety when it comes to mistakes,that is,our supervisors are more helpful to us. I hope to hear some feedbacks to both facility. Thanks.

Today, as May support group ends,would like to say my heartfelt thanks to everyone.This group helped in so many ways,giving encouragement, despite of the new April plan that gives me anxiety, but then, we overcome it. It's good to know, that there is this site where we can vent, ask guidance, opinions, ideas,informations when we badly needed it. Ideas here, that in some ways, clarify our doubts, and questioning minds. The notes sharing that members did, in one way or the other, have contributed to my passing the test. I hope we will continue to support each others in need of informations here. To those who will still be taking their test, continue to read the posts of other members here,expecially the random facts,which where I got so many notes too!Some came out in my test where I was not aware of in my notes.I was so thankful to read it here. Good luck to everyone, and God Bless to all of us!!!as we continue our journey in nursing.The truth is, our learning continues,it's not only preparing and reviewing for the NCLEX but I realized, I still have to study more and more for job hunting,interviewing, and equipping ourselves with more knowledge as we start a job as a new RN.

I used Saunder's 4th ed. and PDA by LaCharity. I think when you know the content, you can answer the question even if needs a critical thinking.By knowing the content from Saunder's through practicing the questions on CD, and practicing the Prioritization Book, even if it is really hard how to prioritize, this will brush up our prioritization strategy and you will be okay for the test.Just remember always the ABC in prioritization,learn the mnemonics in infection control,read the question properly and decide the best answer. Hi kristoffer, I do self review with Saunder's Comprehensive 4th ed/CD, and I added the Prioritization,Delegation,Assignment by LaCharity.I am an international graduate of 7 years.I took my first exam 2007, but failed.MY performance says near passing.So the 2nd time,I did review everything.When I got my ATT,within that 3 months period, I seriously practice test on CD for 50 to 100 questions everyday.The good thing with this Saunder's CD, is you can stop and resume anytime of your practice test.I have also limited time, so doing 50 to 100 a day, is really a struggle. I am always praying to pass the 2nd time so I can work as a nurse and not depend financially on my husband.I also cannot afford to be in a review center,to tell you,even paying my exam was so difficult that's why,every night, before I slept, I review my notes,to see to it that I retain what I study.I convinced myself that with self review, I can make it as I did passed my local board with just self review. With your time, I am sure you can do it.It's just a matter of serious determination to succeed. Also, one thing that will help you with your study, the mnemonics in infection control, will give you easier to remember and try to read the random facts here for an added notes. I wish you all the luck in your pursuit of changing your status of life.I know and understand your feelings. Just give yourself enough time to study on your own pace.

Please take time to read the random facts, lots of topics in my test I found there, even those very remote questions in my mind.

I agree with you,my skills must be very rusty this time.But I am confident with the refresher course, I can easily gain momentum as I am the kind that is very serious in learning. The staff position I saw in our hospital only asked for 4 months experience, I hope I would qualify. Before getting my RN,I was an experienced nursing aide in my country which is a 2 year course.I also have a business degree and licensed, so maybe all these will be reflected in my resume.I understand that what is also relevant is the present experience after being an RN, so I will work on attending this refresher course. Thanks for those who replied.I am still in cloud nine of passing my RN.but come now the reality of not having an experience.

Sorry for my question, i hate to ask this, but i need to know. I don't have any experience in nursing job yet since I graduated 2003. Now having a license, I am on job look out.I saw openings as staff nurse,charge nurse in the hospital. Could you please, please explain to me, what particular job each is doing? I am considering attending a refresher course first before I will be applying, but just want to know now. Thanks for understanding my ignorance.
