Who's going to Anesthesia school?

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

We've had several threads from everyone saying they were accepted to various schools, but if everyone is willing let's do one big thread for everyone that will be starting anesthesia school this summer or fall. If you don't mind please include where you applied, the status from each school ( meaning didn't get an interview, interviewed and not accepted/made alternate/accepted), and the school you chose and why. Thanks, so much!

I applied to :

1) Medical College of Georgia- interviewed and made alternate

2) Samford (in Birmingham)- interviewed and accepted

3) University of Alabama at Birmingham- interviewed and accepted and will be going there this fall. I chose UAB because I loved the Director and all of their clinicals are in Birmingham, so I won't have to travel all over the state.

Scranton U - Applied, interviewed, and turned down

Mount Marty School of Nurse Anesthesia - Applied, interviewed, and

accepted. Start school in Aug 2005

TWU and Kaiser - Applied, declined interviews based on my decision to attend

Mount Marty

Looks like most of the people in this post are from the northern US. I'm gonna throw in the cog here!!

Louisiana State University (New Orleans) - Applied to Last year and was an alternate. Reapplied this year and will interview soon.

I just want to say congrats to all who have applied or interviewed. To me, it requires a great deal of dedication and perseverance just to get the paperwork together and get that interview. GRE scores, MAT scores, transcripts, letters of rec, goal statements/essays, etc...... Putting all of this stuff together is time consuming, but well worth it. I feel fortunate just to have an opportunity!! Good Luck to All!!

1-Baylor College of Medicine Houston - Interviewed, accepted and will start in June that was my first Choice.

2- TCU - Interviewed, accepted but turned down

3-Texas Weslyan - Interviewed, accepted, but turned down

4-Medical College GA - offered interview but turned down

5-FIU - Offered interview but turned down.

Start at Baylor June 27th and am pumped, getting loans and everything else together as we speak. Wish me luck, good luck to all you guys.

Nitecap,

Can u tell me how the application/interview process went with Baylor? I have been considering CRNA school after BSN, but haven't made up my mind yet? How long and what kind of nursing have you been doing over the years? How was your nursing GPA, and is it a big factor in acceptance?

Thanks!!

To all Future Anesthesia Providers,

Oakland University accepted and declined offer

U of Cincinnati no interview offered d/t GRE score. (Poor application process at UC, no one communicates status of application, only one person reviews materials and he is always on vacation. I had to email program director to find out my status.

MTSA- interviewed; alternate

UT Knoxvillle; awaiting interview hopefully. Applications in process. This is my first choice. Anxious and waiting.

I applied to Texas Wesleyan, interviewed and will hear in April. Applied to TCU, interviewed and accepted.

Akron University applied and declined.

University of Cincinnati applied and accepted will start in September.

Case Western applied and made alternate but I will not wait around!

Did you ever go on campus or was this an interview granted after they reviewed your paperwork? Reason for questioning is that ODU was my second choice, but I got in after interviewing at UTC / Erlanger and declined ODU. I always wondered "what if" about ODU and Virginia. I just wonder what the school and hospitals were like.

Thanks

After they reviewed my paperwork. I recieved the invite for an interview after I had already decided to go to UC. I never got to go see the campus or meet the faculty. I applied to ODU because the price was right and I knew people that lived in the area.

MJBSN,

I liked the interview process at Baylor alot. It takes all day but when you leave there you really hope you got in. They kinda pump you up about the program which is good. Instead of sitting in front of a panel of interviewers you have several 5-7 seperate 1 on 1 interviews eacg lasting about 30min.

They take you on a tour of the campus including sim labs and cadaver labs where you will be working. After that the first and second year current classes took us out for happy hour at a local pub. It was good though, I am ready to start.

GPA 3.4 Cum, Nursing prob 3.6 or so, GRE 1050, 2yrs Cardio Thoracic ICU in Med Center, tons of undergrad extra curriculars, the Director did say that they were not looking for the the person with the highest GRE/GPA, they are looking for the people that they think have what it takes to make it thru but also fit in with the program. People with 14oo gre and 3.8GPA's did not get in while people with 3.2GPA and 1000 GRE got in. Like I said in another post I really believe confidence is the KEY, these directors can get the feel of you really quick and know if you really want it and know your stuff.

Thanks for the reply. I never went there either, just wanted to know if you did the same as me or not. Thanks again
