Stony Brook BSN - Summer/Fall 2011 Applicants

U.S.A. New York

Published

ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... :D ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ... :(

but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).

anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?

Specializes in NICU, neonates, newborns.
Hey everyone, thanks for the well wishes. Sure hope to see some more acceptances here!!!! Waiting is like watching paint dry...

:anbd:

omg! so happy for you!!!!!!!! im still status quo :( but im very glad for you.

Hey everybody... Im in the middle of finals but I do check in on you guys when I am procrastinating and avoiding studying!! :) Congrats to everyone that has been accepted!

We all have discussed why we got in and others didnt.... I think grades are more impt for the accelerated program because to the stressful intensive nature but someone once explained to me that it is more a group of people in a room, everyone finds applicants they can relate to and then they all just fight it out. I know they really strive for a diverse mix of people and backgrounds.

I know someone asked about whether accepting one offer would knock you out of another.... I dont think they pay that much attention. I was accepted into 1 year program and waitlisted for the 2 year (I only wanted 1 year but was worried about not getting in and wanted to cover my bases). At the end of my summer semester during 2 the year orientation I recieved a call from the SB congratulating me on making it off the waitlist. I had to tell them I was already in the 1 year program!! lol ... So based on that I do not think one has anything to do with the other.

PM me if you have any questions (Im sure you have tons:) I have 3 finals ending friday and then we are done with classes and just have capstone!! :) :) ;)

Good Luck!!

I just checked my SOLAR Account as I was running out ot the office around 2PM and lo and behold, NEW TABS. Took a little clickin' around, but I found my acceptance tab. Yeah, :) Hope others get some delayed good news too!!!

YAY!!! Congratulations classmate!!!!!:yeah:

Specializes in Peds.

wow i havent been here for a long time... i tried not to care so much hoping it wont upset me... but i feel like the decision thing is gonna happen all over again... me waiting getting anxious and then get rejected and burst into tears... gosh i hate this feeling =\

btw, congrats too those who got accepted!!

is anyone going to be living on campus?

For those that have made it...I know that past classes had started up facebook pages to keep in touch with each other. Do you know if there is one set up for the class of 2013 yet? If not, I will try to set one up.

It has been a while since i been here. Congrats to everyone who got in! =DDD esp. Paco!!! im really happy for you. Well i did not get in =( its okay i just took it as it wasnt ment to be. But i was upset since it was my 1st choice, i actually read the rejection letter before i went to work so it pretty much ruined my day. I did get accepted into UMDNJ summer nursing program so i decided to go there, maybe i was just ment to stay home hahaha GL to everyone in the future =) im sure we all will be a part of the big nursing family one day.

Thanks for offering to set up a FB page. That would be great, don't laugh when the old guy can't figure out how to use it though, I just traded in my abacus for one of those new fangled calculators last week!!! :uhoh21:

About starting a gathering on Facebook:

What you want to do is start a Facebook GROUP, not a page. A page is very public and anyone can "like" a page and see everything posted, plus you don't know the "likers." With a group, you have the option of keeping it private only to members that request to join and your discussions won't be open to view for the rest of the world to see. You have 3 options when you create a group: open, closed, and secret. I recommend "closed" so that no one but the members can see posts. If you make it secret, no one can ever find the group in a search and can only join by being invited by other friends.

To create the group, go to the home page in your Facebook account and look on the left-hand side of the screen. You should see a "Create Group ..." link, click that to open the Create Group box.

Name the group (something easy like Stony Brook Nursing Class of 2013) and choose Closed as the privacy. Note also that you will have to add at least one of your Facebook friends to create a group, so whoever chooses to create the group should already be friends with someone who will be joining the group.

The person who creates the group will become the Admin, and this person basically has the ability to approve requests to join. Admins can also make other members admins to spread the responsibility. Admins can also make edits to the group page, such as add a picture.

Sounds too complicated? Let me know and I will be happy to start it off for you all, but I will first need a Facebook friend who will be in the group :D (PM me with your Facebook username). Of course, I will eventually leave the group and delegate the admin to someone else, as I am already part of the 2012 group and you all will be discussing some things that won't apply to me (but then again, we will have many similarities since we are all at the same school and in nursing).

to those who didnt get in, hang in there, and congrats to those who did! Paco, ive been following your story, truly happy for you!!:clpty:
