ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ...
but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).
anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?
It's nowhere near that expensive. I'm out of state. Tuition is about $26,000 from start to finish, including health insurance. If you already have a degree, as you will if you are applying to the one year, you get limited government loans. Independent students get $12,000, and dependents get $7000 and their parents can apply for PLUS loans (or, if they apply and get rejected, the student receives an additional $5000).
That's good to know, thanks for clarifying this info. I simply took the per credit rate and multiplied by the number of credits in the program. I kind of did this in a rush and did not take into account how taking 12 or more credits in any one semester will flatten out the tuition. I figured it had to be less than what I thought.
So how are the remainder of the costs covered if an independent gets $12K in government loans?
I am trying to read through this to get an answer from anyone who can help as I sit here dreadfullyyyy waiting out Feb. ugh. I was wondering if anyone knew if our clinicals (if by some grace of God I get in) are every Saturday? I am trying to prepare financially for whether or not i can bartend one night a week still and also factor in a reality check for what my relationship will be like since i usually visit my boyfriend every other weekend! Anywhoo staying positive happy valentines day everyone! :flwrhrts:
Last summer, there were about eight different clinical rotation groups to chose from. Some had clinical the same day every week, and others had them some weekends and not others. Every group does clinicals at SBUH in the summer. If you're in a special group that contracts to do every rotation for the whole year at stony brook hospital, then you don't ever do clinicals on the weekends.
You get to bid on the groups, but there's no guarantee you'll get your first choice.
Hi, I'm new to the board but have been lurking around for quite some time now. It's impressive how active this board has been and wanted to chime in. I was checking solar tonight after a few days of laying low... and I noticed a lot of new tabs. So worry not my dear-nurses-to-be, you should be getting your decisions soon! Ah, and I can't wait to meet you all at Stony Brook!
:anpom: I HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED!!!! :anpom:
I logged into SOLAR and saw the tabs!!
If you got the new set of tabs: Under the Student Admission tab, click the "Admission Decision Response" then click the "View Decision" link. If you were accepted, you will see the Congratulations! letter and a link to accept or decline admission at the bottom.
If you don't see the tabs today: hang tight! Perhaps they are still "loading" SOLAR!
Congrats to everyone! :)
Hey everybody! I'm currently in class in the accelerated program. I had the exact same change when I was accepted but it was atleast a week before I received an acceptance but the new student tab is a sure thing as far as I know... I don't know anyone who had a new student tab who didn't get in. I had the same error about being able to register... It is normal.
For others I also know people who did not
Get the tab right away and did get accepted also. They do a few rounds of acceptable because they require u to respond with deposit within 5 days and as they get responses they extend more acceptances! Check our old thread for timing details.
Congrats and good luck!! I remember how much anxiety I had and how glued to these boards I was!!
