Stony Brook BSN - Summer/Fall 2011 Applicants

ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... :D ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ... :(

but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).

anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?

You surely don't have to be the one student that spoke up the most, but you certainy should be one that got an A in the class. The occasional question asked in class will get you noticed also. This is why I ALWAYS sit in the front row, in the professor's face, so he/she knows who I am if I end up needing a recommendation. I am by far NOT one of those annoying people in class that others get sick of hearing talk. I do my work and ask good questions every so often.

hahaha there is always that student that everyone gets sick of hearing. But yes, i did fairly well in the prof's class i asked a rec. from. I try to sit in front of class but being a biology major everyone else did too hahaha it was like a fight for the front everday... the reason i chose them was because i took them more than onces and i had to present my research to them so probably thats why they remember me. If it wasnt for that then i would be screwed since i wasnt much of a question asker lol

I didnt call today for the transcripts.. i had work then was dragged to bridesmaid dress shopping but im off tomorrow so i will def. make sure i call after my anp lab. I requested mine 2 weeks ago so im pretty sure they should be there.... it would suck if it wasnt recieved and i would have to pay again for it to be sent out. hopefully yours will get straitened out but im sure it will =)

i wish my prof. was on point like yours was who finished it that day... lol mine is still pending =.=

Ahh this is so annoying. I have everything submitted but the SOLAR website keeps on messing with one of my recommendation letters. It indicated it was submitted last week but now it says it has not been received? I am trying to e-mail them hopefully they get back to me tomorrow or I will have a panic attack !:uhoh3:

SOLAR is not very reliable sometimes. If it was submitted with your application, rest assured that it's IN! :)

I called them today to make sure they received it. Thank goodness they assured me that it was just an error on SOLAR. Phew! It really scared me!

How will we be notified if we get in or not? Thru regular mail or on SOLAR? Do you know about what time we will be hearing back for the 1 year program and the 2 year program?

Are you applying to any other schools? I am thinking of applying to Rutger's too. I applied to Edinboro in PA and Hunter College although Hunter doesn't seem too promising. It was a little discouraging that they base their admission solely on grades. Let alone the fact that I first have to apply to their school and wait to get in there before I can even apply to their nursing school.

I found out last year I was waitlisted sometime towards the end of January, by letter. I think acceptances/rejections go out around that time also, but NOT SURE. From what I recall of other people that were accepted, even before they received a letter in the mail they noticed that their SOLAR screens changed, now filled with "new student" tabs when they logged in. I suppose that is a good way to tell early enough if you got in. I never got those tabs, and I was waitlisted. People that were outright rejected also did not get these tabs. You can get obsessive about checking SOLAR every day after learning this :D but try not to get the obsession get to you! This was for the 1 year program, don't know the timeline for the 2 year.

I'm also applying to UCF, UNF, UMiami (I live in FL if you havent figured yet) but I would love to return to my home state of NY hence my application to SB. As a backup I will also apply to Beth Israel's ADN program if all else fails.

I called during my lunch time at work and yet again nobody picked up so i decided to leave a message. A lady called back a few hours later saying if i access my solar account i will be able to see the status of my transcript... however, from what i read it seems in order to access it i need to have already submitted my application h/e i still have 1 more recommendation im waiting for. Were you able to find out about the status of your transcripts through the phone?

So, i called the number you gave and a lady picked up, i informed her about my situation that i would just like to check the status of my transcript but i have yet to submit my application due to pending recommendations. She informed me that i can submit my applications before the recommendation are all finished. I asked if it was possible because i seem to remember it stating that i cannot submit my application without completing the recommendation section. If I remember correctly, it does not let you submit the application unless you actually enter 3 names and email addresses for your recommenders - don't remember anything about it saying they must be in submitted mode. I guess she is right. But I agree, I would want to submit the application only after I was satisfied to know that the recommendations were in. It is kind of annoying to not know the status of one's transcripts without first sending in the applications and getting a SOLAR login. I am still trying to find time to finish my essay :(

I finally received my solar account ID and saw none of my transcripts has arrived?!? so i called stony brook to check to make sure i mailed it the right address ( which i did ).. they asked me when i submitted my application i told them oct. 22nd and the lady said that it takes about a few days or so for them too pull up all our files and update our solar account since i sent my transcripts the end of last month. I told her that the application is due in 1 week what if they cant find its deadline, she just said its okay you can send it an unofficial transcript or resend it...

did this happen to anyone else?? cause im willing to expedite my transcripts this week

however it would save me 22 dollars if this is actually happened before. =(

Yeah, it's a little unnerving when you don't know whether your transcripts have arrived, and it's such a major hassle trying to find out by phone if they have arrived. I called today and they could not tell me anything new about my transcripts (I left my name and # with someone who was supposed to leave a message for the person who could tell me, but I got no callback -- oh my, SURPRISE SURPRISE). I have not yet sent my application in so I don't have SOLAR access for this year, I will prob submit it Thurs. Last year I submitted my application on Oct 31 and my transcripts were showing up in SOLAR as received on Nov 3, 4 and 5. I freaked out because I know they had been sent out around Labor Day - how could they have arrived so late and looking like they got them after the deadline?? So I called them and they said that it's OK that they show as received after the deadline, that's just when they were matched up with the application. Apparently, this never ended up being a problem because my application was eventually considered complete and reviewed (even though I was waitlisted - and I would like to think I was waitlisted based on content and not because of transcripts that might have appeared late which I know they weren't) ... they get SO many transcripts, chances are yours (and some of mine) are still in the pile!!!

I am probably going to fax them unofficial copies of the ones that they had not received since the last time I called. Will bring me peace of mind. I know the official copies were sent way back in Sept. and are probably sitting there unopened. They got there last year, I am sure they got there this year too.

Hiii guys!

Im new to the thread but experiencing the same nerves as you all with the application process! Im an intern currently at Stony Brook working under the dean of the nursing program actually (hoping this will help my odds as my g.p.a isnt as strong as I would like it) but i saw some stressing over transcripts. Since I am one floor above the student services office I decided to stop down yesterday when I too noticed all my transcripts were "not yet received" on SOLAR.

I told the woman it was just unnerving since I had no confirmation of whether or not they got there and no direct person other than the office address to have them sent and that each transcript I got sent there I had one sent to my house as well so I could time them accordingly, that being said I have received a copy of all my transcripts and yet none of them showed up on SOLAR. She said that many people stress but its the closing of the deadline coming up and it may take up to TEN DAYS TO REGISTER! and also that I had to submit my application before it would even begin the application. So I immediately went back up to my office submitted the application because I was really only waiting on one letter of recommendation (to the poster above you can submit after their contact information is in don't wait for them to submit them as it will slow the process of your applications review and im sure u are as nervous as I am!) Anyway, I naturally was panicked by the fact that the application is closed Tuesday and decided to leave an unofficial copy (a photo copy of all the ones I had received) with them just to cover my bases. If I was you, to help ease the anxiety, I would photocopy an unofficial and just fax it over to the office with a simple note explaining you just want to ensure you have everything covered as the deadline is approaching and understand an overflow of documents is probably being sent it.

Sorry if this was too long but I sit here alll day and I have researched every aspect of both programs for the most part and talked to all the professors in it while shadowing them at work. So if I can help at all feel free to let me know! Best of luck to you all I know I'm counting down the days until we find out
