Just wanted to start this thread to see if anyone else has applied to the 12 month accelerated nursing program at stony brook!
@soydelmonte I did not. I applied to stony brook last year but the two year. I didn't receive an interview because of my grades. I took everything over and received all As for the pre reqs and went out of my way for extra experience. I landed the first wave of interviews this year for the accelerated. I am not really interested in other schools because I'm obsessed with stony. I graduate from Stony Brook in the spring in Public Health
Oh that's awesome! You know you should consider applying to Summers Public Health Scholars Program hosted by Columbia. (Not trying to deter you from Stony Brook) but if you do end up being free over the summer, I think this is a great way to catapult yourself into the world of Public Health and even try to network with people who are nurses. So I got into the program like two years ago and I networked with the Nursing School at Columbia and I believe it helped my application by a lot.
But I am equally as obsessed with Stony as well (even though it's a back up for me). But I need to know if I get into my safety school or else I have no safety net after that haha.
for those who are waiting for a decision, my advice to you is to keep an open agenda for as long as you can if you dont get an acceptance right away. There are people in our class who got rejected after the interview and then was offered a seat weeks before the program began. I was put on the alternate list and can tell you Im doing just as well or even better than people who were accepted initially. The program is ran weirdly so expect much more of that if you decide to come but it is doable. Make sure you apply to other schools and you should be fine.
Hi everyone,
I'm concerned that applying to the 2 year basic baccalaureate program at SBU will hinder my chances of getting into the accelerated program. I just feel that they really pushed applying to both (I understand why re: deadlines), but the application definitely has the ability to field applications by those who also applied to the accelerated.
Maybe I am overthinking it, but I VERY much prefer the accelerated. I wonder if they prioritize those who apply to both by putting those applicants in the less competitive program (so that they can potentially still have them as a student and offer the accelerated to someone who only applied to that program)
Does that make sense? Haha
