Stony brook accelerated nursing class of 2019

Published

Just wanted to start this thread to see if anyone else has applied to the 12 month accelerated nursing program at stony brook!

found it! Just requested to join. Thanks for the info! :-)

Hi everyone,

I'm new here. I'm interested in the Accelerated BS in nursing program at Stonybrook and really wanted to apply this Fall for next year 2019. I tried reading on their website about the program but it is very limited so I was wondering if may be some of you guys can help....

I would like to know the structure of the program. Is it just day class only? or is there evening classes? because I have a full time 8-4pm job that I have to go to to help support myself for the tuition.

Is it possible to work while doing this program?

Is there a clinical rotation build into the program? how long?

Thank you all for your time in providing whatever info you can give me in this regards. Thank you. Have a great day!

Hi, I am in the same position. Hopefully we will get some answers soon.

Classes are pretty much all day every day. A full-time 8-4pm job would definitely not be doable with this program.

While they strongly advised against working, I know plenty of people that worked per diem and did just fine. Clinicals are generally 12 hour shifts once a week.

Best of luck!

Hi everyone, I'm applying this august for the accelerated program but wanted to get some feedback on whether or not my stats are competitive

Bachelors in Biology from CCNY Cum Laude 2017

(transferred from UCONN in 2015 with 2.5 GPA but transfer credits were not factored into my final GPA so I still graduated with honors)

A&P I - A (took twice once at UConn and got a D, second time at CCNY)

A&P II- A

Microbio- B-

Lifespan Development- A

Chem- B

Statistics- A-

English- A

1.5 year experience working as a Patient Care Associate doing EKG's, Phlebotomy and Finger sticks

I'm concerned because I did terrible my first two years of college and it really made my gpa suffer. But I've taken plenty upper level sciences since then and gotten A's such as Anatomy, CancerBiology, Developmental Biology, and Pathophysiology so i think that should help make up for it.

I am in the process of applying! Just have to start my personal statement. You?

I submitted on 08/22! I'm so nervous, if I don't hear about an interview by October I'll be applying for the two year program as well. I think the deadline for that one is Janauary.

Hi eam13008, I was just wondering if you had heard back from SB?

Not yet! The deadline is today and in pasts years they didn't start notifying until the 3rd week of October. Fingers crossed, trying not to stress.

Hello! I want to wish everyone who's applied this cycle the best of luck! I decided, very last minute minute, to apply and made it by the deadline (not sure how, or if, it hurts my chances applying so late :/).

Not sure how long it normally takes to hear back, but hope to hear good news soon. Does anyone know what's the latest we would hear back?

Thank you all for sharing your news/updates :)

Hi, does anyone know about possible questions during the admission interview ? I am nervous about a writing part and, of course, the group interview. What are your thoughts on this? thanks!
