Just wanted to start this thread to see if anyone else has applied to the 12 month accelerated nursing program at stony brook!
I went to the interview yesterday! You do a group interview with about 5 people at your table and two interviewers asking us questions. For my group they only asked about four questions. Time flew by. The interview itself lasted 1 hour and the testing lasted another hour (super easy!). Overall the process itself took only two hours.
The professors/interviewers are very nice. They take notes while you speak. (I guess just to remind them of what you spoke about). They said your interview is important, but they do look at your application overall when dwindling down the number of applicants to 80 people.
I feel as if everyone in my group was super qualified to be a nursing student. I'm not quite sure what they look for in a candidate. I feel as if I answered the questions well. But at this point it's hit or miss for me. I have a 40% chance of getting in. lol
I can tell you this much:
5 people were invited for an interview. I was apart of the first round of invitations. There were four time slots across four days I can choose from. If there are 5 students being interviewed per each time slot that gives you approximately 80 people being invited for the first interview. Perhaps someone from the second round of interview can give you a guesstimate of how many people were asked to have an interview during the second wave. Add the numbers up and hopefully it hasn't reached 170 people!
A few more details: my group had four girls and one boy. All four girls worked in a medical office/hospital/medical university. The one boy was actually from Stony Brook. I'm unsure of his work history.
Hey everyone!I had all my materials submitted by 9/5... I am super nervous because I dont have much science background. I have a degree in Business Administration from Suny buffalo (UB) and my GPA from there was only like a 3.1. but in my science prereqs i have a 3.9. it seems like a lot of people that apply to this program have a bio or health related undergrad degree. anyone else applying with a business or completely unrelated background?! i haven't received any email regarding an interview yet but i submitted my application super early so i'm freaking out!!
It seems to me that the order in which applications were received has nothing to do with getting a first, second or third round invitation for an interview.
I submitted my application on 9/29 and was called for an interview nearly two weeks later.
I graduated with a Health Care Administration degree, but it was still considered a B.S. (Health + Business I guess). Two out of the five people in my group with Psychology majors. Still not far off from a "science" but I'm sure there were others outside of the STEM world of majors.
Your science GPA is really strong. I'm surprised that didn't make it through the cut.
