Just wanted to start this thread to see if anyone else has applied to the 12 month accelerated nursing program at stony brook!
Thank God I'm not the only older person! Feeling confident, I set up a Facebook page for this class:
Log into Facebook | Facebook or "Stony Brook Accelerated BSN Class of 2019"
I know it's a little early. If I'm not accepted, I'll just step away. Feel free to join.

Hi everyone,
I sent my application in the day of the deadline, and received my interview invitation 10 days later. I'm scheduled for November 1st.
I was accepted into the 2 year program, class of 2014, but i got cold feet and went to the west campus for my BA in psychology. Stupid, I know!!
The first time my GPA was a 3.97, with A's in all of my sciences. At that time, a SB Dean read my letters of recommendation and was impressed but I used to do alot of volunteer work, so maybe that had something to do with me getting in.
This time, my GPA is 3.57, still honors but I don't have much recent volunteer experience. I used the same personal statement since it worked the first time, but updated it a bit.
I spoke to Dr. Della Ratta from the SON and she told me the volunteer stuff isn't as important as your GPA, specifically your GPA for your pre-reqs. She said it's even more competitive now, but remember, out of the 800 - 1000 applicants they recieve, I was told more than half are tossed aside for low GPA or various other reasons.
I'm not sure if any of this has been helpful.
Oh also, last time, I think we were interviewed in groups of 4 or 5 by 3 people. They asked questions like if you were an animal, what would you be, and what kind of adversity have you faced in your life and how did you deal with it.
The written test was easy, they asked questions that you probably already answered in your personal statement (I felt like I was just repeating it). I panicked with the math part. I might brush up on it again before next week.
Good luck to everyone and remember, things happen for a reason. We are exactly where we are meant to be! If you don't get in that just means life has other plans for you!

BTW, are there any "older" students here?
