I live in Miami, FL.
I graduated in May 2015.
Got my license end of July.
Missed application date for residency program because I got my license so late.
Since then, I've been applying to whatever position may be open.
I got one interview, and I didnt get the job.
Ive applied to 20+ positions, and havent heard back from any of them.
A residency program opened up beginning of December, and everytime i check, they have taken down the application.
They usually post it back up in a few days, but I'm afraid they wont since the deadline is supposed to be January 1st.
(i dont know why they keep taking the application down when the deadline is January 1st)
At this point, Im not sure what else to do.
Ive only applied within the area i live in.
Ive sent one or two applications to GA, and planning on sending some out to Orlando.
Any advice would help.
Thanks.
I moved across the country for my first nursing job. I think I'd still be applying to jobs if I didn't leave!
I agree with all of the advice given. Apply to everything and give it your all. Even if you don't get a job, you will start to get a feel for the questions asked in interviews. In the mean time, practice interview questions and etiquette. I am the type of person who needs to actually practice this stuff or I fumble in the interview.
Also, while you don't have a job, look into enhancing your resume/skills. Get ACLS or PALS, etc.
Be patient and willing to try new things. I didn't get my first nursing job until a little after 1 year after licensure. But, I went right into an RN to BSN program.

If i could leave, i'd move to GA where i would like to be within the next year and a half.
Money is an issue when it comes to certifications..... i dont really have the funds for that right now but i am looking into it. It'll beef up my resume.
As for the interviews, i havent been called for any. But i do fumble so i have been looking up interview questions and practicing on my own.
Thank you!
Not giving up just yet.
I am from Ontario, Canada. In 2010, we had a hiring freeze in our area for RNS. It took a year for me to find work and even then it wasn't what I was looking for. I worked in home care, for an agency. I gained great experience in many areas of nursing such as dialysis, medical-surgical, wound care, iv therapy, central line care, paeds and palliative care. I definate wouldn't have found my calling in dialysis without that "road block." Try taking a critical care course or your advanced cardiac life support. Both courses may help you get work in emergency or icu down the road.
Good luck and hold your head high. You will find work soon.

I'm not sure if this was asked earlier or not, but have you considered relocating? Large metro cities in Texas such as Houston, Austin, and Dallas are VERY new grad friendly. And they pay very well. I doubt you would have a hard time landing a job out here..
I have considered relocating. But that isn't possible right now. And if I were to relocate, it would be to GA which is where I'm planning on moving to once I'm able to do so.
Thank you. I wish relocating was possible right now.

Some of these are like 1 hr from where I live!
But I'll look into them.
I haven't been able to find jobs that mentioned new grads being eligible.
Thank you.
I live 1 hour away from the hospital that I work for right now. A few of my classmates have to travel 1.5 hours to get to work at non-hospital jobs. Applying for 20+ jobs is nothing, my fellow classmates and I applied for several hundred. Do not be picky with what you apply to. Apply even if it says experience preferred. I also went in person to several dozen, some hospitals and clinics I went to twice. I was hired on the spot for 2 per diem jobs which I still hold. It took 5 months to get a hospital job - I had no connections, but they really liked that I didn't just sit all day and do nothing. I got my ACLS, PALS, NRP, IV certification, NIH SS certification while job hunting. Even with just an Associates degree, I was hired because I tirelessly worked on getting hired. I enrolled in a BSN program as soon as I got my RN license. The NIH SS is free to do online, and will be another step up on your resume.
Take out a loan if you have to, and apply all over the country. Relocate if necessary. Get your advanced certifications. Most of my fellow graduating classmates are still unemployed and those with jobs are severely underemployed. It has been 1 year since graduation for us, too. When job hunting, you have to ask yourself if you are truly doing your absolute best and if you've exhausted ALL of your options. I've noticed that a lot of people here that look for jobs expect one to land in their lap without doing the legwork. I see that a lot with former classmates who complain and ask how I was hired, but then they don't do anything beyond applying for jobs online and being severely selective. Go to your hospitals and healthcare centers. Dialysis centers often look for new nurses. Mental health based programs need RNs. Check out state programs and local government jobs. Use LinkedIn, message hiring managers.
You can do this.

You can do this.
Working on getting funds for the certifications.
And applying to all positions I can apply to, even the ones that say experience is required.
I'm applying even out of state in GA.
Not expecting a job to fall on my lap, but I wasn't expecting it to be this difficult either with all we've been told throughout nursing school... "there's always jobs for nurses!"
Not giving up. I know I'll get hired eventually.
Thank you.

Private duty jobs are within the home health realm. Instead of 'visits' to multiple patients, I spent a 12 hour shift taking care of a young male patient on a vent at home.
