I live in Miami, FL.
I graduated in May 2015.
Got my license end of July.
Missed application date for residency program because I got my license so late.
Since then, I've been applying to whatever position may be open.
I got one interview, and I didnt get the job.
Ive applied to 20+ positions, and havent heard back from any of them.
A residency program opened up beginning of December, and everytime i check, they have taken down the application.
They usually post it back up in a few days, but I'm afraid they wont since the deadline is supposed to be January 1st.
(i dont know why they keep taking the application down when the deadline is January 1st)
At this point, Im not sure what else to do.
Ive only applied within the area i live in.
Ive sent one or two applications to GA, and planning on sending some out to Orlando.
Any advice would help.
Thanks.
Why don't you work as a tech at a hospital, rather than just volunteering? And, not that you have to disclose it, but do you have a history that might make you less attractive as an employee? Finally, you don't capitalize your I's in your sentences, so maybe someone could help you with applications/grammar? I'm not being mean, but since you're asking for help, I want to give you some honest feedback that might help you.
No such history.
I don't capitalize my I's here just because. My applications/resume are all grammatically correct, and have been looked over by someone else.
Thank you.
I had applied to 40+ jobs when I originally got my RN. My problem was that I moved to a different state immediately after graduation and it took a long time for the BON to process my application. By then I missed the residency programs as well and all the in state school graduates had all the open jobs. I ended up taking a private duty job. Keep your chin up and take whatever you can get. Think outside the box. I found the private duty job off of craigslist (as crazy as it sounds).
what exactly is a private duty job?
If possible, ask your friends to compare résumés with you. That way, you can see what yours may be lacking. Is your resume tailored for the position and facility you've applied for? Remember that life experience counts. Did you ever sit on a board? Did you have a leadership position in a club or where you volunteered? What did your instructors have to say about you? Do you have experience with Epic? Do you have your BLS/ ACLS/ PALS, etc? Put it all down. Look online for how to phrase your accomplishments. People told me I wouldn't find a job with very little job experience and "just an ADN," but I received an offer on my first application. You will find a job!
Because of the new medicare laws and requirements reducing payments to hospitals, many have cut hiring. That's what you're up against. Have you thought of doing school nurse? They're usually 1:1 with special needs children who have medical needs requiring an RN.
yes. I have. I haven't looked into it in detail. But I'll start to.
Thanks.
This article came out a few days ago regarding the shift from the hospital to community based. reiterating what many have been saying. Forbes Welcome
You may have to take a job somewhere that you don't really want to work to get experience. I got my experience working in a nursing home. It wasn't my first choice but I am glad that I took it because I work in a hospital now. Sometimes I think of going back to the nursing home...some hospitals have a-lot of politics/more rules/ and more people to trump your calls on things. One of the things keeping me at the hospital is that I am getting acute care experience and I don't have to take care of as many patients.
